ABSTRACT
Anna University has undergone amazing growth from unitary type University to
5th best University in India. Creation & maintenance of Digital Repository forms
the strategy to reveal the hidden treasures of Anna University.
This Paper mainly details
Necessity of creation & steps involved in creating Institutional Repository
Complexities involved in creation & maintenance of IR
Benefits rendered by IR
Growth statistics of Anna University beginning from the year it got affiliated
till today
Present status of Anna University judged by documents published every
year
Data collection & Segregation under various categories
Preliminary estimate of expenditure involved in creation & maintenance of
IR

INTRODUCTION
Anna University established in 4th Sep 1978 imparts higher education in
Science & Technology, promotes research & fosters co-operation
between academic and industrial communities
Presently 625 Engineering Colleges are functioning under Anna
University - 4 constituent colleges with University Departments, 13
Constituent colleges of Anna University, 12 Government & government
aided Engineering Colleges and 596 affiliated colleges of Anna
University under four regional centres in Tirunelveli, Madurai,
Thiruchirapalli & Coimbatore
UGC have accredited Anna University with Five Star Status in 2002
which is the highest rating
Only science and technology University in the state of Tamilnadu, has a
position among top Indian universities in terms of its scientific research
output.

OBJECTIVE
The major aim of this proposal is

To develop a Institutional Repository (IR) of the literary/R&D


output/scientific productivity of the faculty of Anna University over more
than two decades (1989-2012)

To enhance the visibility of the productivity profile of Anna University


Chennai

To facilitate online and open access to the research publications of Anna


University Chennai

Data collection includes collection of research outputs scattered among 53
Departments in various forms articles, conference papers, reviews,
editorials, etc.,
Data being collected from the year beginning from 2000 till today is
segregated under various categories

CONCLUSION

Statistical data on research outputs being published year


after year reveal numerous outputs from research scholars
of Anna University. Such valuable treasures of Anna
University are not readily available for easy reference for
future generation. As a step towards bringing the hidden
treasures readily available for young research scholars,
creation of Digital Repository is the only solution. Data
Collection and segregation is the first step towards achieving
such a major goal.
