Course of Study
Transportation affects our lives in a
multitude of ways.

use cars for everyday purposes


mass transit to commute to work, and
flights and cruises for holidays

move raw materials to manufacturers and


finished products to consumers locally,
nationally, and globally

Course of Study--for the students

provide students with opportunities to


acquire the knowledge and skills needed
to service, repair, and modify vehicles and
vehicle systems

you will also learn about the organization


and management of transportation
services and mass-transit systems

land, air, and/or marine vehicles and
vehicle systems found within the
transportation sector

troubleshooting, repairing, and testing

identify and describe different modes of


transportation;

vehicle systems;

transportation and the need for related support

demonstrate accuracy in the use of measuring


systems and methods;

design and construct systems to convert and


make practical use of energy;

describe the function of major vehicle system

use a variety of fastening, fabrication,


maintenance, and repair techniques correctly in

By the end of this course, students will:
explain the environmental impact of materials and
procedures used when servicing, repairing, and
recycling vehicles;

follow safe work practices in the transportation sector


workplace, including safety procedures and practices
and the use of protective clothing and gear;

identify the legislation that applies to the transportation


technology sector;

describe and evaluate the employability skills required


to be successful in the workplace.

there will be 4 to 5 written tests per


term;
tests will consist of various question
types: multiple choice, true/false, short
answer, matching and fill in the blank.
there will be an unspecified number of
short quizzes

Activity Modules 30%


the activity modules are practical activities
that you will complete in a group setting
marks will be given for accurate completion
of activities as well as procedural
understanding
may also include several assignments that
may require some work/preparation to be
completed at home or outside the classroom

Assignments 20%
these assignments will be very helpful for
anyone that anticipates the purchase of a
passenger vehicle
the majority of the course content is based
upon these assignments
a substantial amount of time will be given
for the successful completion of these
assignments

Better known as the exam


This major comprehensive
exam will include many
aspects of the course that
were previously learned

General Transportation Lab Policies


No food or drink in lab area.
No book bags or coats (leave in your
locker if possible). If you require your
packs, leave them near the washbasin.
Do not change settings on computer (i.e..
Change icons, desktop settings, etc.)
Computers are Stand-a-lone. Do Not try
to log-in.
No games on computers.

Other Things You Should Know


Students must sign in and out to leave
the classroom. You must also list the
location where you will be working in
case we need to find you (e.g., Library).
Clean up starts 5 min. before end of
class (NO SOONER)!
Failure to treat the room and equipment
with respect will result in a general
state of ugliness (youll see a side of
your teacher you really dont want to).

Other Things You Should Know
Other tech teachers will likely drop by from
time to time, so be careful. They are
relatively harmless, but they can sense fear.
Whatever you do, dont look them directly
in the eyes (makes em edgy).
Tech teachers tend to do not-so-bright
things once in a while, so be patient with
us. We are human after all (or at least
thats the rumour).
Treat the class, your classmates and your
teacher with respect and this will be a really
fun semester for everyone!
