SAE BAJA

It is a college competition to provide SAE student members with a

challenging project that involves the planning and manufacturing
tasks found when introducing a new product to the consumer
industrial market. Teams compete against one another to have
their design accepted for manufacture by a fictitious firm.
Students must function as a team to not only design, build, test,
promote, and race a vehicle within the limits of the rules, but also
to generate financial support for their project.

The SAE Baja competition involves college students from around the world competing against each other
in many different areas. Some of the categories are; design, cost, speed, power, suspension, and durability.

Baja Members are required to submit University level

design and cost reports during the fabrication of the
vehicle. These reports as well as the finished vehicle
will spend several hours at safety inspections and
evaluations, where areas such as roll cage design,
brake design, suspension geometry, cost and
ergonomics are highly scrutinized by a panel
of project Engineers.

Acceleration- Time it takes the vehicle to accelerate along a 100 flat

course
Hill climb Test each vehicles ability to ascend a steep grade from a
standing start
Maneuverability Test each vehicles suspension, handling, and steering
in an obstacle course
Rock Crawling & Tree Crawling Test the vehicles low speed power,
suspension travel, and traction
Endurance Test each vehicles ability to operate continuously and at
speed over rough terrain containing obstacles in any weather condition
