E waste

HOW TO TACKLE THE IMPENDING E WASTE APOCALYPSE

What is E waste?

Excessive and uncontrolled consumption of Electronic Hardware

Includes Mobile Phones, Earphones, Laptops , Touchscreens,

Projectors , Illumination (CFL, Tube lights, Bulbs etc.), Chargers,
Music players, White Goods, Toys, Storage Devices,
Modems/Routers, Cables, PCBs, Printing Equipment

Caused by technology Obsoleting , Moors law, easily available

cheap and poorly built consumer electronics, Poor Software
implementation eg In nexus 4, LTE capability was present but not
activated on purpose, just so nexus 5 could be released with LTE
capability

Technology today is built specifically NOT to last

How to reduce?

Project ARA by Google is an innovative concept where consumers

can build phones as per requirement and have only what they
need.

Better coding practices (mention Consoles vs. PC, Android bloat

ware, Whatsapp being a notorious offender)

Not an Idiot Box Concept use Ubuntu to breathe life into old
PC/Laptops and reuse them for home theatre purposes, same can
be done with smartphone chipsets, and home automation

Not an Idiot Box concept

Use old electronics in a home to make a smart TV

An average Smart TV costs about Rs 40,000*

Has features any small smartphone can deliver, its basically a large screen
interacting with a miniaturised computer.

By Interfacing an old
smartphone with an ageing
LCD, LED, or CRT TV we can
reduce waste on two ends
and also save a sweet Rs
40,000 in the process.
A small restoration to both
and one can put the amount
saved in an FD and have free

Let There be Light Concept

LED lights are not being used mainly because of their initial cost of
Implementation

In any average household today we could find an old or dysfunctional CFL

and a few Chargers of the dinosaur ages in Mobile phone technology

Using these two with 20, 1 US cent LED* (5370 make)diodes and basic board
of 30 cents a piece we can have a 50 cent LED light that gives 450 650
Lumen of light depending on voltage supplied

This will be powered by any old charger in which rating can be charged by
changing the internal resistance and fit into the CFL module base

This Gives us a 50 Cent LED lamp. For free, basically.

Thats money saved on the lamp, and money saved on electricity plus the
added incentive of a smaller pollution footprint
