INTRODUCTION

In this research, we have tried to find out how batting

strike rate of players affected the performance of the
team in the game in ICC World Cup 2015. For this, we
have collected data from secondary sources, which is
continuous ratio data. The data collected has been
shown with the help of various statistical tools like
graphs and charts and finally conclusion has been
drawn.
*Continuous data can take any value in a given range
*Ratio data have absolute values.

OBJECTIVES
To find out whether consistency in batting
strike rate leads to winning the game

7/14/15

Proposition
Consistent scores and high average run
scored per team i.e., with least fluctuations
in strike rate leads to success in the game.

RESEARCH METHODOLOGY
In order to fulfil our research objectives
we did a causal research where we have
found out a cause and effect relationship

7/14/15

Sources of data
Data have been collected from secondary
sources from the official cricket world cup
2015 website i.e., ICC-CRICKET.COM.
For tabulation and calculation MS-EXCEL is
used.

7/14/15

SAMPLE SIZE

Four teams consisting of eleven players each

including substitute players for some matches.
For India there were 11 regular players.
For South Africa there were 11 regular players
and 3 substitute players.
For Australia there were 11 regular players and
3 substitute players.
For New Zealand there were 11 regular players
and 1 substitute player.

Data analysis
We have used microsoft excel to
generate useful information from the
raw data gathered from the website and
the calculation is done through formulas
of mean and standard deviation .

MATHEMATICAL FORMULAS

Where,
= standard deviation
xi = each value of dataset
x (with a bar over it) = the arithmetic mean of the data (This symbol will be
indicated as mean from now)
N = the total number of data points
Calculation of standard deviation is important to correctly interpret the data. For
example, in physical sciences, a lower standard deviation for the same
measurement implies higher precision for the experiment.
*The mean is theaverageof the numbers.
To calculate strike rate:
Strike Rate = (runs made by batsman) / (total balls faced)*100
eg:
if MSD made 68 runs in 49 balls then,
7/14/15
strike rate= (68/49) * 100 = 138.7755

LIMITATION

25

We have undertaken the research using only

four teams due to which the aspect cannot be
generalized but we tried to show a
comparative fluctuation.

7/14/15

CONCLUSION

26

After statistical analysis of the data we

can put forward our proposition in a
modified form as
A consistent maintenance of high strike
rate by an individual player per game
leads to success.
