Art of Eternity

Any medical technique that attempts to obtain a

pregnancy by means other than by coitus is
called as ART
In these techniques manipulation of the sperm &
oocyte is done outside the body.
ART includes
IUI
IVF
ICSI
Assisted Hatching
Cryopreservation
Third party reproduction : Surrogacy

Intra-uterine insemination (IUI)

One of the simplest methods ART.

Woman should not have blocked Fallopian tubes

and ovulation should be normal.

In women who have ovulatory dysfunction it is

possible to combine IUI with ovulation induction.

It

is also called as Test Tube Baby,

by general people.
It involves retrieval of eggs from
ovaries.
Fertilization of eggs with husbands
sperm in incubator.
Transfer of embryos in uterus.

Ovum Pick-up

This technique involves injection of a singal

sperm into an oocyte (egg) to produce a
viable embryo and healthy live birth.
With a sperm count as low as 0.5 million per
ml. A man can hope to have his own child
with this technique.

ICSI

It is indicated when the sperm count is nil

and the hormones are normal.
It consist of collection of the sperm from
testes under anesthesia.
These collected sperms are use for ICSI for
creating embryos.
Alternatively excess sperms can be
cryopreserved .

In Assisted Hatching, a cut is given to the zona, when the embryos

are at 4 cell (day 2) or 6-8 cell (day 3) stage. These embryos are placed
back into the womb. The cut also called Assisted Hatching, weakens the
zona, and helps in the hatching process. This in turn results in better
pregnancy rates.
Types
Mechanical Hatching (Glass Needle)
Chemical Hatching (Acid Tyrode Solution)
Laser Hatching (InGASP diode laser)
Indications
Women between age group >35 years.
Thick zona
Repeated IVF/ICSI failure
Frozen Embryos

Special technique for freezing gametes and

embryos in liquid nitrogen at -196 degree, so
that they can be stored and used later.

Cryo-preservation

In this type of treatment along with the

biological parents help of a third
person is taken for providing eggs,
sperms and uterus.

Types :
Surrogate mother
Ovum donation
Sperm donation
Embryo donation

Indication
Congenital absent uterus
(MRKH Syndrome)
Congenital malformations of uterus
Hysterectomy patients
Repeated Miscarriages
Criteria to become surrogate
Women between age of 25 to 35
Women having at least one normal child of her own
Women who understands the pain of childless
couple

First Surrogacy of Latur

After the age of 50 years the ovum

production of female is stopped.
In this type of patients with the help of
ovum donation we can produce embryos
for post menopausal pregnancy.
This type of treatment is indicated in
following cases :
1.Sudden accidental death of single child.
2.Repeated test tube baby failure cases.
3.Unavailability of child for adoption.
