1960

Beginning in the 1960s, Malcolm was invited to participate in numerous debates, including forums on radio stations
(LosAngeles,NewYork,Washington),televisionprograms(OpenMind,TheMikeWallaceNewsProgram)and
universities(HarvardLawSchool,HowardUniversity,ColumbiaUniversity).

1963

In1963,theNewYorkTimesreportedthatMalcolmXwasthesecondmostsoughtafterspeakerintheUnitedStates.
OnJune29,1963MalcolmleadtheUnityRallyinHarlem.Itwasoneofthenationslargestcivilrightsevents.

1964

AfterbefriendingandministeringtoboxerCassiusClay,theboxerdecidestoconverttotheMuslimreligionandjoin
theNationofIslam.InFebruary1964,ClayannounceshehaschangedhisnametoMuhammadAli.
In March 1964, after his split with the NOI, Malcolm forms the Muslim Mosque, Inc. Several months later, he also
organizestheOrganizationsofAfroAmericanUnity(OAAU).

1965

Malcolmsautobiography,whichheworkedonfortwoyearswithwriterAlexHaley,waspublishedinNovember1965.
