Coach a team to play out from a goalkeepers

possession

Pattern Practice
17 players needed in total. I will
work with 9 Yellow players (1-4-3-1)
and gradually build up the
opposition.
Yellows aim is to receive from the
goalkeeper and pass out.
If Blues do win possession they
shoot on sight or create a chance
to shoot as quickly as possible.
Yellows will always start compact
around the ball and disperse as the
GK gains possession.
Goalkeeper: Distribution, technique
throw, roll, pass, float, drive?
Support angle for a pass back.
Centre Backs: Split to edge of
area, offer supporting angles and
depth for passing options.
Full Backs: Create width, disperse
how far? Keep width to stretch
opposition and offer support
angles.
Central Midfielders: Disperse, offer
depth, triggers to drop and receive,
offer supporting angles, be creative
going forward
Wingers/Striker: Push up high
and/or wide to stretch opposition
and offer outlets/supporting
angles..

Phase of Play

Yellows play 1-4-3-1 (4-3-3)

Blues play 2-4-2 (4-4-2)
Yellows score by running the ball
through either of the gates placed
15 yards inside the opposition half.
Blues given instructions to drop off
towards halfway line as the phase
of play starts. They will be allowed
to press later on in the session.
Blues must try to play to strikers as
soon as they win possession. They
aim to create chances to shoot at
goal.
Allow 2-3 minutes of free play as
the phase of play begins for players
to get used to the structure etc.
Pay attention to the coaching
process Observe, diagnose,
instruct, rehearse, play live.
If opposition drop CBs split to
receive or CM drops to receive the
ball from GK.
If opposition press Float a pass to
FB or Striker/Wingers.
Coach on, around and away from
the ball.
Demo with the ball moving.
Coach to the principles of play.
