Before You Start

Check the Documents
Step-1 : Ensure that all the documents mentioned in the NIT are enclosed
or not. If not notify BU immediately.
Step-2 : Check whether the documents enclosed are sufficient or not. If not,
notify BU immediately.
Step-3 : Ensure that the documents have reached other departments
concerned also (Civil / Instrumentation).

Time Schedule
Step-1 : Check the date of raising the queries, Prel. BOQ & Final BOQ.
Ask for sufficient time for raising the Query (Query shall be raised only after
clear understanding of Scope, Design Input Adequacy check)

Who is the owner?

You are the owner for the tender. While committing the dates for Query,
BOQ etc., please consult other disciplines also.

Before You Start

Record Keeping
Ensure that all your workings are done in a separate Writing Pad. No loose
papers
Store all your files in Server only (Never in Local)
Record important oral discussions with BU and Vendor

Calculations

Automate your work as far as possible (Useful for revisions)

First timers Do the calculations using calculators once.
Prepare a summary (Ensure that there is no carry forward error)
Understand the concept of the calculation before using the template.

DIRACL
Use DIRACL format at the beginning itself and raise queries based on this

Lighting
Lighting requirement are based on the following lighting
engineering criteria

Lighting level
Glare restriction
Direction of incidence of light and shadow effect
Colour appearance and colour rendering

Lighting
Room Index =

Where:

NO. of Fittings
Required

LxW
Hm (L+W)

L = Room Length
W = Room Width
Hm = Mounting Height of Fitting (from working plane)
Work Plane = Desk or Bench Height
=

Lux Level x Area to be Illuminated

(Lumen Output Per Fitting x COU x LLF)

Lighting

Typical values of LLF or Maintenance Factor:

Office & air conditioned interiors
= 0.8
Industrial interiors prone to dust accumulation = 0.7
Industrial interiors with highly dust prone areas = 0.6

Earthing

Main Earthing Conductor (Below Ground)

Bare conductor buried under ground, forms the main earth grid.

For switchyard, earth mat is formed.

For Plant area, Earthing network is formed interconnecting all

individual plant earth grids.
