HOW IS MADE A SNACK?

INTRODUCTION
Everyday, everybody eat lots
of packaged foods and hardly
ever we are questioning how
are made this foods, only we
eat and eat.
One of this packaged foods is
the snack, a snack is sold in
any shop and is consuming
for children and adults, but for
a snack is sold in a store, this
goes for a process, called
production
process,
this
process will be explained in
this document.

WHAT IS A SNACK?
A snack is a food that is
prepared from flour, this flour
passes through a machine
called Extruder.
a snack can be sweet or salty
and its form is varied.
An example of snack is the
Cheese puffs or in Spanish
called chisito

WHAT IS AN EXTRUDER?
An Extruder is an machine that is able to do a process called
"Extrusion"

WHAT IS THE EXTRUSION?


The extrusion (in foods) is a process, in this process the Extruder
compresses a food and does a semi solid mass that then, is forced
to passing through a hole of specific geometry.

PARTS OF AN EXTRUDER
Hopper: The flour is
placed in this deposit.
Cylinder: through of
this compartment the
flour enters in the
Extruder and

cylinder that it have

flour until nozzle.

where they exit the
product, its function is to
give shape to snack.

its function is to oppose
the passage of current.

TYPES OF EXTRUDER
There are lots of types of
extruder, but in foods, the
most used is the "Extruder
of Screw".
The Extruder of Screw is
classified in:
Extruder

simple
screw or single screw:
It has only one screw.
Extruder
of
double
screw: It has two screws.

TYPES OF EXTRUSION
The extrusion

Hot Extrusion: It is made
with high temperature and
high pressure, It is used to
make snacks, cereals, etc.

Make a snack is not easy, you
should take the following
steps:
Make formulations with
the flour, the sweetener or
salt.
Programming the extruder
Pour the flour mixture
with sweetener or salt in
the extruder.

MAKE FORMULATIONS
This step is to
calculate the
amount of flour, salt
or sweetener that
you need for make
the snack.
For example:
To make a snack of
corn flour and rice,
you will need 260
grams rice flour, 600
grams corn flour and
80 gr. sugar or salt.

Programming
the extruder
In this step, the temperature, time
and pressure of the extruder is
programmed. To make a snack, you
need work with temperatures
between 100 C and 180 C, and
pressures up to 25 MPa for a short
time (10-30 minutes).

Extrusion
During this process, you pour the
flour mixture into the hopper of the
extruder, and you let that the
machine works for 10-30 minutes.
Then will come the snacks by the
extruder Nozzle.

Packaged
In this step, the snack is saves in plastic containers or plastic bags, for they do
not spoil.

Once the snacks are packaged, they are sold and can be eaten by people, here, the
process of producing a snack is finished.

CONCLUSIONS
A snack is a food that is prepared from flour, this flour
passes through a machine called Extruder.
A snack is a "chisito".
To produce a snack you need to follow 4 main steps:
formulation, program the extruder, extruded and
packaged.
The extruder, for a snack, must be of double screw and the
extrusion must be hot.
Snacks manufacturing is very profitable, because of a little
flour, many snacks is obtained.
