What is energy auditing ?

 Energy consumption of workplace eg. College,

hospital, airport

In depth analysis of Electricity bills

Conservation measures.
INDEX

 Pattern of demand & consumption

over a period

 Contribution of each appliance to the

electricity bill

 implementable measures for

conservation

 Recovery time of investment costs &

consolidated savings
Present Scenario at T.M.
Dental College

Total Energy Consumption= 63796 KWh

Per unit Charge = Rs.4.6
Total Bill = Rs 2,96, 844

Energy Conservation Equipment

1.AC’s
 Aircosaver: Electronic Circuit adding
intelligence to cooling systems having
 integrated relaythermostat
Programmable to control current drawn
to adjust
temperature.
 CO2 Sensors to control air intake by estimating
people in the room
 Reflective windows to reduce heat absorption
2. Fans
Fans consume less energy at low speeds

Fan Voltage Current Power

speed (volts) (A) (W)

2 228 0.2 13
3 226 0.29 26
4 218 0.38 38
5 220 0.46 56

 Using Energy Rated Fans. Rating of 2.5-3 saves 20% power from fans itself
Improvising rotor blades design reduces current drawn.
3. LIGHTS

ENERGY MANAGEMENT METHODS

 Corridor lighting with reflectors to increase illumination

 Maintenance of power factor at 0.95

 Common switch to shutdown tubes and fans in a room

 Cutting down on peak load using automated circuits and soft wares reducing
peak demand charges

 Energy Management Software to monitor and control supply to various

departments
FINAL VERDICT
 Recovery of depreciation costs of AIRCOSAVERS
implemented in 17 AC’s is 312 hours. Savings accrue to 1,
27, 005 INR after 1800 hours.

 Implementation of regulators in 321 fans will be recovered

in 45 days. Savings amount to 51,004 INR. It consumes
38W for a speed of 3.

 Supported lighting load is 30 KW by 1313 lamps. LED

replacement costs obtained in 3491 hours. Savings accrue
to 1, 79, 382. 52 INR after 1800 working hours hereafter.
