In 1990, ABB purchased Westinghouse's metering and
control division.
In 2001, ABB was ranked as number one on the Dow
Jones corporate sustainability for the third year in a

In December 2008, ABB acquired Ber-Mac Electrical and
Instrumentation to expand its presence in western
Canada's oil and gas industries. Ber-Mac Electrical and

In May 2010, ABB acquired software company


Ventyx for more than $1 billion from Vista Equity
Partners.
In 2011, on May 9 ABB announced acquisition of
Australian-based Mincom Limited from private
equity firm
In 2011 ABB acquired Baldor Electric USA for
$4.2 billion in an all-cash transaction
On January 30, 2012, ABB Group acquired
Thomas & Betts in a $3.9 billion cash
transaction.

As of December31, 2013, the total number of shareholders directly
registered with ABB Ltd was approximately 172,000. In addition,
another approximately 229,000 shareholders hold shares indirectly
through nominees. In total, ABB has approximately 401,000
shareholders.

As of December31, 2013, Investor AB, Stockholm, Sweden, owned
186,580,142 shares of ABB Ltd, corresponding to 8.1percent of
total capital and votes of ABB Ltd as registered in the Commercial
Register on December31, 2013. As of July25, 2011, BlackRock Inc.,
New York, USA, owned 69,702,100 shares of ABB Ltd, corresponding
to 3.0percent of total capital and votes of ABB Ltd as registered in
the Commercial Register on December31, 2013. To the best of
ABBs knowledge, no other shareholder held 3percent or more of
the total voting rights as of December31, 2013

The company was incorporated on 24th
December 1949 as Hindustan Electric
Company Limited.
In 1965, the Companys name was changed
to Hindustan Brown Boveri Limited (HBB).
Pursuant to the Scheme of Amalgamation of
Asea Limited with HBB with effect from 1st
January 1989, the name was further
changed to Asea Brown Boveri Limited
(ABB) with effect from 13th October 1989.
