System Control Unit - SCU & SCU-H

> The purpose of SCU/SCU-H is to control and

monitor the functions of the subrack.

There has to be one control unit in every Tellabs
8100 node.
SCU/SCU-H can have optional modules.
SCU can be used in Tellabs 8150 basic nodes
and in the slaves of Tellabs 8170 cluster nodes.
SCU-H can be used in Tellabs 8150 basic nodes,
in the slaves of Tellabs 8170 cluster nodes and
in Tellabs 8160 accelerator nodes A111.

> SCU is discontinued.

Node inventory management

Backup of unit settings
Protection of the cross-connect system
Protection of control buses
Rack alarm (PMA, DMA, MEI) control
Event reporting to the Tellabs 8000 network manager
Channel test functions
Control channel support for HDLC-4CH or HDLC-16CH

Control Bus (VTP Bus)

> VTP = Virtual Token Protocol
> a collision-free media access method based on the token passing principle
implemented by the aid of timers

> The control bus is used for communication between

units in the same subrack.

> There are two control buses in the Tellabs

8150 basic node and the bus selection is
controlled by SCU/SCU-H.

> The control bus goes in slots 2-16 and

18-32.

> The bit rate is 2 Mbit/s.

Backup of Unit Settings

> SCU/SCU-H takes backups of the interface parameters
of all the units that are in the subrack inventory.

> If a unit needs to be replaced, the control unit will copy

the settings of the old unit into the new one.

Rack Alarm Control

> Rack alarms, PMA, DMA, MEI are given if any unit
in the subrack has an active fault condition.

> The SCU/SCU-H collects these alarms from the

units.

> SCU/SCU-H controls the rack alarm LEDs located

in the power unit in slot one.

Interfaces & Optional Modules for SCU

> Async interface (9.6 kbit/s)
> Used to connect the DXX Server or Service Computer

> SCC-IF (64 kbit/s)

> Used to connect X.25 link to the DXX Server

> SCP Module

> 4 HDLC channels, more memory for backing up settings

> Alarm-IF
> Alarm input support

SCP - Extended Memory Support

> SCP adds additional extended backup memory to
the SCU unit

*) SCP is discontinued

Interfaces & Optional Modules for SCU-H

> Async interface (9.6 kbit/s)
> Used to connect the DXX Server or Service Computer

> Alarm-IF
> Alarm input support

> SCP-H Module

> 16 HDLC channels
> Ethernet interface
> Used to connect the DXX Server or Service Computer
> Provides 16 Ethernet control links
> Nominal capacity per one link is 64 kbit/s
