Methodology
The main principle behind them is that the teacher
asks the class a phonics-related question. For example,
the teacher may call out a sound and each pupil must
find the corresponding letter on their phonics fan.
But instead of showing it to the class or calling out the
answer, the pupils must hold it tightly to their chest so
no one can see and only display it when requested to
do so by the teacher, thus ensuring full pupil
participation.

This is the basic method for using phonics fans.

Activities
may be used to teach lettersound relationships as well
as a wide range of phonics skills that are particular to
each class level.
Appropriate balance of activity types for individual, pair
and group work.
The games are fun and easy to follow. Some have a
competitive edge, while others involve raps or songs.
The games progress in a spiral nature, building on what
pupils have learned and thus ensuring success. The
games also reflect the phonics skills taught at each
class level.
