SUGGESTION FOR DESIGNING

WORKBOOK

Content of workbook tasks should provide for a

systematic and cumulative review of what has already
been taught.

Workbooks should reflect the most important aspects of

what is being taught in the class.

Workbooks should contain, in a form that is readily

accessible to students and teachers .

Instructions to students should be clear and easy

to follow.

The layout of page should combine attractiveness

with utility.

Workbook tasks should contain enough content so

that there is a chance a student doing the task will
learn something.

The content of workbook task must be accurate.

At least some workbook tasks should be fun.

SAMPLE WORKBOOK
CHAPTER-1
ENERGY
MAIN POINTS

ENERGY- Energy is the capacity to do work.

The two types of energy are kinetic energy and potential energy.

KINETIC ENERGY Kinetic energy is the energy possessed by a body by

virtue of its motion.

Kinetic energy =1/2mv2
POTENTIAL ENERGY Potential energy is the energy possessed by a body
by virtue of its position or state or strain.
The potential energy of a body at a height h from the surface of the earth is
mgh.
Transformation of energy Energy can change from one form to another.

Part 1.Definitions of Energy.

Directions: Write down the definition for each of the following terms.
ENERGY:
KINETIC ENERGY:
POTENTIAL ENERGY:
Part 2. Transformation of Energy
Directions: Use the following forms of energy to fill in the table below: mechanical,
electrical, heat, radiant, chemical, nuclear, and sound.

ORIGINAL FINAL
ENERGY ENERGY
FORM
FORM
1.
Electric motor
2.
A battery that runs a
moving toy

Part 3.Forms of Energy.

Directions: Determine the type of energy for each form (Kinetic,
Potential, or Both) and give an example.
Form

Definition

Mechanical
An objects movement creates
(motion) energy energy
Thermal (heat)
energy
Radiant energy

The vibration and movement of

molecules
Electromagnetic waves

Electrical
energy
Chemical
energy
Nuclear energy

Movement of electrons

Sound energy
Gravitational
energy

Stored in bonds of atoms and

molecules
Stored in the nucleus of an atom;
released when nucleus splits or
combines
Vibration of waves through
material
Energy of position or height

Type (KE,
PE, or Both)

Example (for
each type if
both)

Part:4 Fill in the blanks

If the roller coaster is still, it
is___________________energy.
If it is moving, it is
_________________________energy.
Part:5 Problem solving
1.What will be the potential energy of the rod when it is on
the ground?
2.When a spring of toy car of mass 0.5kg loosened, the speed
of the car is 10m/s. Calculate the kinetic energy of the car.
