PROBLEM STATEMENT
ICT application have become an important part of teaching and learning. The
Ministry of Education has invested a huge effort in terms of funding and
training to equip teachers and students with ICT skills.
In your opinion, what are the issues and challenges in integrating ICT in
teaching and learning in our Malaysian Schools.

INTRODUCTION
Ministry of Education promote this ICT skills in Malaysian Education start from
1986.
ICT is about any communication device / application (e.g : computer, network
hardware and software)
So, we as a future teacher should try to use available ICT equipment or software to
enhance the teaching and learning process, thus attracting the students attention
and interest toward the subject.
For instance, e-Learning has been described as the use of electronic technology to
deliver, support and enhance teaching and learning.
However, there are still issues and challenges in integrating ICT in teaching and
learning in our Malaysian school.

WHAT IS ICT?
An umbrella term that include any
communication device or application,
for instance computer, cellular phone,
television and network hardware and
software, satellite systems as well as
the various services and applications
associated with them such as
videoconferencing and distance
learning.

PPSMI

PPSMI was introduced in 2003.

The objective of PPSMI is to elevate the Malaysian educational system to fulfill the
national aspirations as well as to meet the international challenges.
So, when the PPSMI programme started, the government give a lot of computer and
laptop to each schools in Malaysia.
Every science and mathematics teachers were granted laptops as a means to enhance
the delivery of both subject areas in English.
In 2003 Budget, Tun Dr. Mahathir Mohamad said that the government provide about 5
Billion for this project from 2002-2008.
The issue started when the government spend a lot of money to provide the facilities
for this programme such as teachers CD-ROM, projector and the laptops.

SKMM through the USP programme has allocated one million 1Malaysia notebooks to
be distributed amongst recipients such as secondary and university students as well as
other lower-income groups.
This programme is to ensure that :1) the users have the opportunity to access the Internet.
2) to increase the broadband usage throughout the country.
3) improving the usage of ICT in community towards a knowledgeable society.
So, as result, this will contribute to the nations broadband penetration as well as
extend the benefits of broadband to students and the nation.
For this project, government have spend high cost so that the Malaysian having the
same quality as the others in advanced country.

CONCLUSION
A lot of issues and challenges arise from this idea. So, the
government, especially the Ministry of Education has to open
their eyes widely to see these issues and take serious on these
matters to find the ways to overcome the problems in order to
create such an excellent education system in Malaysia.
