OF LIGHTING

VISION:

LUMEN

LUMEN Lighting solutions was set up with an aim of bringing

on a revolution in the industry. For this we have adopted
new technical innovations, keeping in mind the concerns
about the environment as well as the standards of quality.
At LUMENs, we understand the importance of Lighting in
climate protection. Hence Leaving minimum carbon
footprint is the top most priority here.
We keep in mind our Long term commitment to
sustainability .
The Lighting revolution is here and we are in the Lead.

FEATURES :

LUMEN
CFL

According to the Union of Concerned Scientists, if every U.S.

household replaced just one regular incandescent light bulb with a
compact fluorescent light bulb, it would prevent 90 billion pounds of
greenhouse gas emissions from power plants, the equivalent of
taking 7.5 million cars off the road.
Compared to general-service incandescent lamps giving the
sameamount of visible light, CFLs use one-fifth to one-third the
electric power, and last eight to fifteen times longer.
A CFL has a higher purchase price than an incandescent lamp, but
can save over five times its purchase price in electricity costs over
the lamp's lifetime.
CFLs typically have a ratedservice lifeof 6,000 - 15,000 hours,
whereas standardincandescent lamps have a service lifeof 750 or
1,000 hours. However, the actual lifetime of any lamp depends on
many factors, including operating voltage, manufacturing defects,
exposure tovoltage spikes, mechanical shock, frequency of cycling
on and off, lamp orientation, and ambientoperating temperature,
among other factors.

uniqueness:

LUMEN

An amalgam is a substance formed by the reaction of mercury with

another metal. Almost all metals can form amalgams with mercury;
the notable exception being iron .The amalgam used in our products
is Phosphor amalgam which is 60 percent mercury and 40 percent
phosphor by weight, the sole supplier being AB enterprises from
Mumbai. Currently amalgam (GRANULES) costs Rs. 500 per kg.
Adding the transportation and Labor charges, its cost reaches up to
Rs 650 per kg. Considering the requirements of our product, 1 kg is
sufficient for nearly 500000 units.
The unique feature of our product is the use of titanium dioxide as a
buffer solution in the glass tube in order to prevent the leak of
amalgam and better vaporization of amalgam and also efficient
utilization of phosphor . The printed circuit boards for the cfl are
assembled keeping in mind the rules of BEE which prohibits six
hazardous chemicals (electric and non electric) while manufacturing
a PCB.

The mentioned quantity of raw materials is sufficient to

produce 10,000 units of the product.

Product Cycle
Glass is put into the molder. Then other processes
LUMEN
follow as material go through the assembly line.
Desired shape {chiefly coiled} is obtained. This
coil goes into the filament pump.
Titanium Dioxide is used as a washing agent using
the filament pump.
Thereafter, the washed coil is processed through
the amalgam pump in order to put an amalgam
granule precisely made in the machine itself.
Parallely plastic molds are manufactured and
circuit boards are fitted which are later mounted
manually.
This mounted product is then soldered and sent
for quality testing
Now products at this stage are sent for packaging

Marketing
LUMEN

As LUMEN CFL is new in the market, there is a

great need to market our products. This is the
only way to make the consumers aware of our
products. This comes as the very next step
after production. The profit of the company
greatly depends upon how the products are
able to create an impact upon the consumers.
The marketing department is vital to an
organization in its own ways.
The marketing is done on a short time basis.
The strategies keep on changing with the
changing market scenario. A constant update
is done regarding this in order to cater
changing needs of the consumers.

The main stages in

marketing are:-

LUMEN

The first one being,

1. Make people know about the
company and what product we sell.
2. How is it useful to them?
3. Promote our products.
4. Make people understand how our
product is different from others?
(here its energy efficiency).

The second step is:1. Make a list of wholesalers,

retailers and explain them about
the products. This would need door
to door canvassing.
2. Offering them a superior margin
than the competitors.
3. Giving them targets and rewarding
them on the achievement of the
given targets.
4. Above that offering a warranty
period of 1 year and 3 months gives
a upper hand to our product as well
as our company above our
competitors.
5. Shopkeepers will be given free

LUMEN
S

Since separate products are meant

for the rural and urban markets,
the marketing strategy also varies.
1. For the urban market, expensive
CFL are manufactured with
variations in color, shape and
luminous intensity.
2. The targets would be corporate,
restaurants and hotels and urban
households as well.
3. Here since the market is urban,
thrust is given more on external
appearance and looks, although
energy conservation is kept in
mind.

LUME
N

Now, when it comes to the rural

market, the thrust is given more on
highlighting the energy efficiency
rather than appearance.
Also ,keeping in mind the income
range of rural consumers, the products
are needed to be kept cheaper that
that of the competitors.
Making the consumers aware of our
product comes next. Since the market
is the rural one so the channel of
message needs to be lucid and easy to
understand. They can be print media,
audio as well as audiovisual media.
Conducting promotion events pointing
out the rising electricity charges and
how our product helps in cutting down
