BACKGROUND OF THE STUDY

Discovery approach stresses the learning of concepts, theories, principles and
contents through discovery rather that memorization.
It is not only the act of finding out something unknown but also includes all form
of obtaining knowledge for oneself by the use of ones own mind.
As much as possible, the instructional materials that must be developed should
focus on hands-on learning opportunities for students.
It is more effective if the activities involved would encourage students curiosity
towards risk-taking, problem solving and examination of unique experience.
This research aimed to develop and use instructional materials that are effective,
based on the principles of human learning and cognition that will fit current
standards and practices for instructional materials design.
ASIST

OBJECTIVES

o Develop and evaluate instructional

materials aligned to discovery approach
and
o Determine the level of appropriateness,
acceptability, and usability of the
developed instructional materials for
science teaching.

ASIST

METHODS

o This researched used the Students and Teacher Collaborative

Instructional Materials Development Model to develop and evaluate
instructional materials.
o The evaluators were selected through random sampling.
o The students whose names were odd numbered were given
evaluation sheets.
o The instructional materials were evaluated according to the level of
appropriateness, acceptability and usability.

STATISTICAL TREATMENT OF DATA

o The mean was used to determine the levels of Usability, Acceptability and Appropriateness of the
Developed Instructional Materials using the following norms;
