WHAT IS MRP?
In 1964,Joseph Orlicky developed Material
Requirements Planning (MRP).
The first company to use MRP was Black & Decker in
1964
MRP is a systematic planning-and-control methodology
for production and inventory.
Procedure for planning and controlling
the raw material,
purchased parts, and
work in progress (WIP) inventories required in
manufacturing a product.

An MRP system is intended to simultaneously meet


three objectives:
Ensure materials are available for production and
products are available for delivery to customers.
Maintain the lowest possible material and product
levels in store.
Plan manufacturing activities, delivery schedules and
purchasing activities.

Only assembly .
Engine, sensor,chip etc imported from japan
Other component are purchased from local industries.
Industries are generally within the main campus.

The maximum amount of raw material at the factory


at any point of time does not exceed two hour
production requirements.
Within 48hrs ,all finished car left the factory.
No dealer is sent more than 15days stock.
Toyota managed this by Milk Run policy.

What is milk run ?


A milk run ,in logistics ,is a round trip that facilitates either distribution or
collection.
Picking small quantities of supplies from vendors.
