Definition of Fluidization
Fluidization is a method of contacting
the solid particles with either a liquid
or gas fluid. With this method the solid
particles are expected to have
characteristic
like
high
viscosity
liquids.

Advantages &
Disadvantages
In the application, fluidized bed has several
advantages compared to fixed bed, among other
things:
Bed characteristic that resemble the fluid
allows for a continuous flow of solids
High speed of mixing solids causes reactor
always be on isothermal speed, making it
easier to control.
The transfer of mass and heat between fluids
and solids is better than the fixed bed.
Heat transfer between fluidized bed with good
heat transfer medium allowing the use of a
heat exchanger that has a smaller surface area.
Allows operations on a large scale.

Advantages &
Disadvantages
Some disadvantages of use of fluidized bed:
During operation, solid particles eroded so
the fluidization characteristics can changed
from time to time.
Fine granules will be carried by the flow of
fluid, resulting in loss of a certain amount of
solids.

Applications

The occurrence of erosion of the vessel and

the cooling system by solid particles.

Adv & Disadv

The occurrence of bubbles and the local void

in the bed often can not be avoided.
Mixing solids too soon will result in lack of
uniformity of solids residence time in the
reactor.
