RIZAL IN SINGAPORE

The Isla de Panay arrived in Singapore in the

evening of September 7, 1882

The following morning Rizal and the other

passengers went ashore for sight seeing and

shopping for souvenirs.
In his travel diary, Rizal wrote some changes

he noticed:
I have observed some changes: There are
more merchants and less indian... I bought a
chinese gown...Singapore has changed much
since the first time in 1882.

Don Pedro, with his son, disembarked at

Singapore. He advised Rizal to stay behind too

and take advantage of the protection of the
British law.
-Rizal did not heed his advice....
Don Manuel Camus Filipino resident in

Singapore who boarded the streamer headed

to urge Rizal to stay in Singapore to save his
Life.
- He also ignored their appeal

WHY? ......

He had given his

word in honor to
Governor General
Blanco and he did not
like to break it.

DUPLICITY

Rizals Mistakes
He sealed his own DOOM.
By refusing to break his word of honor in

Singapore.... - He thought General Blanco

was a man of honor because he let him go as
a free man to Spain to become a physiciansurgeon of the Spanish army in Cuba, and
gave him two letters of introduction addresses
to the Spanish minister of war and colonies

The Truth:
that Blanco was his implacable foe, who
regarded him as a dangerous Filipino who
was responsible for the ranging Philippine
Revolution.
Rizal was unaware of:
Blanco and the Ministers of war and the
colonies were exchanging coded telegrams
and confidential message.

TRIVIAS.......
TEODORA ALONZO WAS AN ILLEGITIMATE CHILD...
Rizal's grandfather (Lorenzo Alberto) was married with somebody

else but was living with another woman, Rizal's grandmother

(Brigida Quintos). That illegitimate union produced Rizal's mom,
Teodora Alberto, who eventually changed her name to Teodora
Alonzo.
Don Lorenzo first husband of Teodora Alonzo before Francisco

RIZAL ARRESTED BEFORE

REACHING BARCELONE
Sept. 25, he saw the streamer Isla de Luzon,

leaving the Suez Canal, crammed with

Spanish troops.
Sept. 27, he heard from the passengers that a

telegram arrived in Manila reporting the

execution of Francisco, Roxas, Genato and
Osorio.

Sept. 28, a passenger told Rizal that he would

be arrested by order of Governor General

Blanco and would be sent to prison in Ceuta
(Spanish Morocco)

Shocked by alarming news, Rizal belatedly

realized that he was duped by the

unscrupulous Spanish officials, particularly the
sly Blanco. With an agonizing heart he
immediately....

Wrote a letter to Blumentritt.

S.S. Isla de Panay, Mediterranean

September 28, 1896
My very dear Friend,

A passenger on board just told me a news that I can hardly believe

and should it be true, would bring to an end to prestige of Philippine
Authorities.
I cannot believe for it would be the greatest injustice and the most
abominable infamy, unworthy not of a military officials but of the last
badit.
I cannot believe it, This is infamous, but if it turns out to be true as
everybody assures me, I am communicating to you these news so
that you may appraise my situation.
Yours,
Jose Rizal

Rizal Noted in his Diary:

There are people on board who do nothing

but slander me and invent fanciful stories

about m. Im going to become a legendary
personage
