Network

1.

A network is a collection of computer and devices

connected together via communication devices.

Benefits of Computer Network

1.
People communicate efficiently and easily
2.
Can sharing hardware
3.
Can sharing data and information
4.
Can sharing software
5.
Can sharing internet access
6.
Can use to transferring funds

Devices Needed in Computer Networks

Types of Network

Types of Network
1.

Local Area Network (LAN)

~ A network that connects computers
and devices in a limited geographical
area such as a home, school computer
laboratory and office. Computer
connected via cables or wireless.

2. Metropolitan area network (MAN)

~ A high-speed network that connects
local area network in a metropolitan area
such as a city or town.

3. Wide Area Network (WAN)

~ A network that covers a large
geographic area such as a country or the
world by using a communication channel
that combines many types line, cable and
radio waves.

Differences between Types of

Computer Networks

Network Topology
1.

Star Network
~ All of the computer and devices on the
network connect to a central devices.
~ The central devices is hub
~ All data that transfers from one
computer to another
computer passes
through the hub.

~ If one of the computer fails, the star

network will still function as long
as the hub is working.

2. Ring Network
~ A cable forms a close loop (ring) with all
computer and devices arranged along
the ring
~ Data travels from device to device
around the entire
ring in one direction.

~ If the device on a ring network fails, all

the devices before the failed device are
unaffected but those after the failed
device will not function.

3. Bus Network
~ Consists of a single central cable, which
all computers and other devices
connect
~ Transmits data in both directions

~ If one of the nodes fails, the bus network will

still function.

Technology in Computer Network

1.

Bluetooth
~ Bluetooth technology uses short-range radio
waves transmit data between two Bluetooth
devices.
~ Bluetooth devices often must be within about
10 meters.

~ Examples of these devices can include

desktop computer, notebook, handhold
computer, PDA, smart phones, headsets,
microphones, digital cameral, fax
machines, printer.

2. Wi-Fi

~ Wi-Fi (wireless fidelity) is a set of standards that

refers to the Wireless Local Area Network (WLAN)
~ Advantages of using Wi-Fi are as follows:
i) Simplicity
- You can connect computers
anywhere
ii) Cost Wireless - Networks are easy to set up
and are inexpensive
iii) Easy Access - Wi-Fi supports by moving
your computers from one
access point to another
