Topic

Objectives

Multiple service
groups with NIC
resources

Implement more efficient configurations for

multiple NICs in different service groups.

Multiple public
interfaces

Describe the networking resources that can

be used for managing multiple public
network interfaces.

Multiple service
groups with NIC
resources

After completing this topic, you

will be able to implement more
efficient configurations for
multiple NICs in different service
groups.

NIC resources in multiple service groups

Three service groups contain a NIC resource:
Each NIC resource monitors the same network interface.
The NIC agent monitors each NIC resource every 60 seconds.
Additional network traffic is generated by three monitor
cycles running for the same device.

The state of netsg is offline because the
service group contains only a persistent
resource.

Using Phantom resources

A Phantom resource enables VCS to report the online
status of a service group containing only persistent
resources.

Localizing a NIC resource

You can localize the Device attribute for NIC

resources when systems have different network
interfaces.

Multiple public
interfaces
After completing this topic, you
will be able to describe the
networking resources that can be
used for managing multiple public
network interfaces.

10

Trunked or bonded interfaces

To use the operating system trunking or bonding feature:
Configure a NIC resource with the Device attribute set to the
logical interface
Configure an IP resource

bond0

IP webip (
Device = bond0
Address = 10.10.10.21
)
NIC bond0NIC (

)

11

Local network interface failover

VCS can fail virtual IP addresses between local
network
interfaces before failing over to another system.

13

Comparing MultiNICA and MultiNICB

MultiNICA and IPMultiNIC
Supports active/passive
Requires only one base IP
Does not require a single IP subnet

MultiNICB and IPMultiNICB

Supports active/active
Fails over faster and supports failback and migration
Supports single and multiple interfaces
Supports IPMP and trunking (Solaris-only)
Requires an IP address for each interface
14

Lesson summary
Key points
You can configure multiple network interfaces for local failover
to increase high availability.
VCS includes agents to manage these network resources.
