Multimedia Definitions
Multimedia
The term multimedia is composed of 2
parts:
Multi (multus) : numerous, multiple
Media (medium): middle, center agent
for something. Used for dissemination
(distribute) and representation of information.
In general, multimedia could be defined as
the usage of multiple objects, e.g. text, audio,
video, images etc. for presenting information

Multimedia is a combination of text,
art, sound, animation and video
delivered by a computer or
electronic/digitally manipulated means.
The elements of multimedia are:
Text
Images/Graphics
Audio/Speech
Animation
Video
Multimedia
When the end user/viewer of the
multimedia project is allowed to
control the elements, it is called
interactive multimedia
When a structure of linked elements
through which the user can navigate,
interactive multimedia is called
hypermedia

A software vehicle, the message and the
content presented on a computer/TV
screen/PDA/Cell phone together constitute a
multimedia project
MM Project=software+message+content
The multimedia project may be a page or a
website on www where the elements can be
woven into documents with HTML/DHTML/XML
and played rich media files into a browser.

A multimedia project may not be
interactive, such a project is called a
linear multimedia
The interactive multimedia with navigation
control is called non-linear multimedia
Multimedia elements are typically sewn
together into a project using authoring
tools which are software tools designed to
manage individual multimedia element
and provide user interaction
