INTRODUCTION

What is air conditioning ?

Air conditioning is the process of
altering the properties of air (primarily temperature and humidity) to more favorable conditions
and the device that is require to achieve these favorable conditions is called air conditioner.

PRINCIPLE OF
AIR CONDITIONER

The basic principle behind the

working of air conditioner is the
VCR (vapor compression
refrigeration cycle).

This cycle consist of mainly four

components :1.compressor
2.condenser
3.expansion
4.evaporator

GBU
Air
Conditioning
system

The GBU air conditioning system works on water as a coolant. Basically , a chiller plant is installed for the whole air conditioning system.
Through this chiller plant cooled water flows through underground pipes to the different schools as per the requirements.
The chiller plant can be called as the main heart of the air conditioning system. The VCR cycle is basically used in that chiller plant.
At each school and library FHU are fitted to control the flow of water and the air for distributing duct that is installed inside the buildings
of schools.

Some
Points :1. Refrigerant used in chiller is R134A
2. Minimum pressure require is 2.5 and maximum pressure is about 4 to 5.
3. there are total five chiller plant in GBU out of which only four are working.
4.chiller plant 3 is providing us the services for air conditioning i.e. SOE
5. This chiller plant is also providing services to School of Architecture , School of Biotechnology , School of Vocational studies.
6. Voltage frequency device are used for controlling the rpm of motor.

CHILLER PLANT

The chiller plant consist of

following parts :1.chiller
2. cooling tower
3.pumping motors

Note:- the minimum voltage

required for starting the chiller
plant is 370V and maximum

CHILLER

Parts of the chiller :-

COOLING
TOWER
The working of cooling tower is to cool
the water by break up in to fine droplets
and then pass a cross flow of air through
these fine droplets.

Pumping Motors
There are different type of motors used in chiller plant which are defined as follows
:1. motor for condenser
2 motor for evaporator

Motor for
This motor
is basically used for
condenser
water exchange between
condenser pipes and cooling tower.

Motor for evaporator

The minimum pressure require for the chiller to be operated is 2.5 . Since the chiller work continuously so water
pressure can be fall below its minimum requirement . So , for giving the require pressure we use two motors that
are defined as :1.Primary motors
2.Secondary motors

Primary Motor
the function of this motor is to receive the hot water from all working
stations back to evaporator. Temperature of the returning water is 60
degree Celsius.

Secondary motor
the function of this motor is to send the cool water at 8 degree Celsius
from evaporator to the work station where its temperature becomes
12 degree Celsius.

Work
At the work station FHU are provided
that are usedstation
to blow air in different
ducts and also to control the flow of
water.
