Dilemma 1
Professional Rivalry
Description
Competition can enhance ones Quality, also
it has the power to degrade the person.
Professional rivalries often seem like the
ultimate waste of time.
Each and Every person has Competitor in his
or her profession but how he or she deals
with them is an art.
There are two type of mentality we mainly
find in people.one who is always jealous
from their competitor and always think how
to side track them by being a back stabber.
and the another one who believe that they
can glean important lessons from their rivals
Arguments
Jealousy is valid but losing your core values and
qualities wearing a curtain of jealousy over you is an
un ethical thing.
You, being jealous should not destroy another
innocent individuals career that he has made by
working hard and without harming you.
Analysis
According to Kantian ethics theory greatest
good is good will. Kant says do good because
you have a duty to do good, the consequences
are totally irrelevant. Taking revenge is also
against to universal maxim.
According to Kantian ethics theory a person
should respect sportsman-ship and try to work
even harder to gain back the place which he
lost.
Counter Argument
According to Utilitarianism greatest good is maximum number of
happiness.
Ex : Suppose there is a person who becomes so successful in his
profession that he has over shadowed more than many of his peers.
Because of it, those peers loose their current positions. Those
wounded and lost peers would want to stage(take) a revenge.
Conclusion
The failure would always be victimized by agony and feeling of
revenge.
Why is one spending so much time worrying about what
someone else is doing?
Why doesnt one focus on his or her own business?
Its true that obsessing about a competitor isnt the healthiest
long-term activity.
But Ive also come to believe that you can glean important
lessons from the very act of rivalry if you use it as an
opportunity for growth, rather than just an opportunity to crush
your enemies. So it is good to be Kantian and learn from
others success, and apply it to your methodology of work and
rise again.

Dilemma 2
Is this right?
Description
Arguments
The Utilitarianism theory will not work here.
If you are ready to sacrifice your self esteem and dignity,
either falling prey to someone elses demands or for
your own benefit then it is something which is violating
the universal maxim according to the Kant.
Counterarguments
But if a considerable amount of innocent
people are going to be affected by the decision
you make, then sacrificing your dignity and
career for the benefit of those people is the
ethical thing to do.
IN REAL WORLD ..
Imagine
You have a poor family in Russia
You cant afford your rent, or to feed your young children
A friend of a friend tells you they know someone looking for a
waitress in a neighboring country, and can guarantee you a job
They offer to accompany you in your trip and tell you that in a
short time you will be able to send money back to your family
Would you accept? How many would allow their sisters, wife, or
daughters to go?

GOVERNMENT ENABLERS?
AFTER-EFFECTS
Conclusion
Here, taking decisions by following
Kantian ethics is definitely more
suitable, because it supports the
Universally accepted fact.
Dilemma 3
Utilitarianism.
Its all about CONSEQUENCES..!!!
QUESTION : Would you turn down an offer which could
be a huge leap forward in your career,
just for the sake of mankind and good
health of the millions?
Arguments
If the person is utilitarian then he would surely care for
the millions and would decline his careers greatest
offer, because this would save the millions of lives.
ANALYSIS
According to CLASSICAL Utilitarianism : utility of an
action is defined as the overall balance between
happiness and unhappiness produced by the action.
Benthams version :
COUNTER ARGUMENTS
IN REAL WORLD ..
A) You attempt to help an elderly man across the street. He get
across safely.
Conclusion :- the act was a good act.
B) You attempt to help an elderly man across the street. You stumble
as you go , he gets knocked into the path of a car, and is hurt.
Conclusion :- the act was a bad act.
Conclusion
In certain circumstances as discussed on previous slide,
Utilitarianism plays fast and does not take into account the actions
as Gods commandments.

A person, loves you the most, and has sacrificed his/her life
to bring you up, and now its your turn to return to him/her,
assume that helping him can affect your carrier.
Analysis
Loyalty is one of the quality that differentiate mammals from
other animals.
Love, Dedication, kindness from first mammal makes another
mammal loyal to the former.
Selfishness, Misunderstanding, clashes are the hurdles to the
loyalty.
Utilitarians Analysis
A utilitarian person would think about the consequence of
being loyal to the person who sacrificed for you.
He would think that whether being loyal can snatch the
happiness from millions of peoples, e.g.:- if you are doing some
job where millions of peoples are benefited from you, then
utilitarian would continue the job and leave the idea of being
loyal.
Kantians View
A Kantian would be loyal to the person that
loved him so much and dedicated his life to the
former. Because being loyal is his duty to the
latter person for his sacrifice.
IN REAL WORLD ..
Most popular disloyalty cases are abandoning of parents
to old-age homes by their children. Parents sacrifice
their happiness, time, efforts, for their children, and in
return when their child grows up, they find their parents
burden and send them to old-age homes. They even
cant give a small place to their parents to live in their
big house.
Conclusion
Being an Kantian would be beneficial here because Kantian
Philosophy supports duty rather than Consequence unlike
Utilitarianism. Because predicting consequences is complicated
according to Kant.
The person would be true human being if he follows the
Kantian Ethics here.
