Coverage : Definition as per Technical Specification of Contract Agreement.
As per clause No.5.3.4.1 of the CA no. Dy CSTE/TC/MLG/2003/36/MTRC Dt.17.05.2005.
The Coverage level is defined as the field strength at the antenna on the roof of a train
(nominally a height of 4m above the track). An isotropic antenna with a gain of 0dBi is
assumed. This criterion will be met with a certain probability in the coverage area. (The
target coverage power level is dependent on the statistical fluctuations caused propagation
conditions)
As per Clause No.5.4.3.2 of the CA no. Dy CSTE/TC/MLG/2003/36/MTRC Dt.17.05.2005 ,
coverage probability of 95% based on a coverage level of 38.5 dBuV/m (-98 dBm) for
voice and non-safety critical data.
coverage probability of 95% based on a coverage level of 41.5 dBuV/m (-95 dBm) on
lines with ETCS levels 2/3 for speeds lower than or equal to 220 km/h.

Purpose of RF / Coverage testing:

Purpose of RF drive test/ Coverage testing was to check Receive level of RF signal of
GSMR network between Station GUWAHATI and KATIHAR section of N.F. Railways inside
the Train.

Method of Testing :
RF drive test was carried out along with Railway staff in Train using RF drive test kit of
TEMS. TEMS handsets were connected with Laptop loaded with drive test software and
kept inside the train. The GSMR antenna of the TEMS handset was fixed on the roof top of
the coach as per clause No. No.5.3.4.1 of the CA no.Dy CSTE/TC/MLG/2003/36/MTRC
Dt.17.05.2005 . GPS antenna was connected with Laptop and installed outside to track the
exact position of the moving train. Continuous call was made to handheld MTRC set kept at
MALIGAON.

Received Level in (dBm) :

The legend indicate various ranges for the received level in dBm.
Example 0 to -65 range is shown in green color ( Strongest Rx Level) .
