LOG PERIODIC

ANTENNA

IT IS CALLED LOG PERIODIC ANTENNA

The

Self-complementary antenna was

originated and its constant-impedance property
was discovered in1948by Y. Mushiake. Several
years later, Professor V. H. Rumsey in the USA
studied the antenna with log-periodic shape for
the purpose of developing
Frequency-independent antenna by making use
of such a property of self-complementary
antenna. For this reason, his antenna was
actually log-periodic self-complementary
antenna. In the meantime, his coworkers
developed an extremely broadband practical
antenna by modifying his original structure, and
it advanced further to the log-periodic dipole

However, it should be
clearly noted here that
the log-periodic shape
does not provide any
broadband property to
antennas. In fact, logperiodic antennas
arranged in an
anti-complementary ma
nner
do not have broadband
property. Similarly, the
log-periodic dipole array
does not have
broadband property

LPA PARAMETERS
Bandwidth
Directivity
Gain
Polarization
Impedance

Bandwidth : The bandwidth of an

antenna is the range of frequencies
over which it is effective, usually
centered around the resonant
frequency.
Directivity :Directivity show us that
how well an antenna Transmit and
receive EM waves in
particulardirection.
Gain : Gain is the comparison of TX

Polarization : LP antenna has linear

polarization.
Impedance : As the electric wave
travels through the different parts of
the antenna system , it may
encounter differences in impedance.
SWR : The ratio of maximum power
to minimum power in the wave can
be measured and is called the

Radiation Pattern : Radiation

pattern shows us that how an
Antenna transmit and receive EM
energy in different directions.

LP ANTENNA
TYPES
There are two types of LP Antenna.
LPDAStraighttype
LPDA Vee type

ADVANTAGE
S
log periodic offers reasonably good
gain over an extremely wide range of
frequencies.
It is also highly directional.
log-periodic provides a very wide
bandwidth as compared to yagi-uda

APPLICATIONS
Used in mobile base station
Used in TV reception where a single
antenna can receive all channels even
up to UHF band
It is best suited for all round
monitoring in which a single LP
antenna covers all high frequency
