HISTORY
The National Council for Teacher
Education, in its previous status since
1973, was an advisory body for the
Central and State Governments on all
matters pertaining to teacher
education, with its Secretariat in the
Department of Teacher Education of
the National Council of Educational
Research and Training (NCERT).

Government as well as private
schools are providing higher salaries
to improve the standard of teaching
in their schools and colleges. Tutoring
is a great side income for teachers as
its generally not sufficient to support
ones family only with a single
teaching job.

Some people dont approve of


commercialising teaching but the
new schools that are coming up are
more in lines of corporate
organisation, providing hefty salaries
and training program for teachers to
grow and upgrade constantly. The
number of such schools is rising in
new India.

FUNCTION
Undertaking survey and studies relating to various aspects of
teacher education and published the results.
Making recommendations to the centre and stste government
universities, the U.G.C and other institutions in the preparation of
plans and programmes in the field of teacher education.
Coordinating and monitoring teacher education and its
development in the country.
Preparing a guideline with regard to minimum qualification for the
candidates to be employed as teacher educators at different
levels.
Developing norms for any specific category of courses of training
in teacher education, including minimum eligibility criterion for
admission.
Preparing a guideline and specified requirements for starting new
courses and programmes under teacher education.

Developing a guideline for general teacher education programme.


Promoting innovations and research studies and organize them
periodically or annually.
Supervising the teacher education programmes and providing
financial assistance.
Enforcing accountability of teacherdevelopment programmes in the
country.
Preventing commercialization in teacher education and maintaining
quality and standard of teacher education to produce better
teacher.
Entrusting responsibility to other organization, universities and
other institutes.
Preparing a programme for in service teacher education for
orienting teachers for latest development.
Establishing international relations in the area of teacher-education

ACADEMIC PROGRAMME
Preventing B.Ed. correspondence courses which are
lowering the standard and quality of teacher education and
be commercialized the teacher education
Preparing code of professional ethics is to be maintained by
orienting teachers in this context
Developing curriculum of teacher education pedagogical
theory working with community and teaching practice
Developing methodology of teaching and techniques
evaluation procedure, continuing and non- formal
education and administrative structure
Improving role of teacher in social and vocational areas.
