INTRODUCTION

Synthetic antipyretic
Background
drugs may have
Fever is a condition
where the body
temperature rises, in
which it is controllable
at first but begins to
cause physical
discomfort when it
reaches 39.5oC.
Antipyretic drugs work
by lowering the
temperature standards
to its normal value.

several side effects,

such as peptic ulcers,
duodenum ulcers,
kidney disorders and
liver. Furthermore,
they may be a
expensive in price
which pushes people
to use traditional
medicine instead,
which are more
simple and affordable
yet just as effective in
terms of prevention
and treatment.

Background
Based on Indonesia's

Herbal treatment using

medicinal plants has been
empirically proven
effective for treating the
disease. Indonesia has a
wealth of diverse biological
resources and many of
them contain useful drugs.
Traditional medicine is the
natural medicine that has
been used for ages and
known for its usefulness in
strengthening the immune
system as well as to cope
with various diseases.

wealth of natural
resources, the writers
wish to create a new
herbal medicine to
reduce fever. These will
be antipyretic drugs
which are expected to
work effectively to treat
fever, be safe for
consumption, contain
100% herbal ingredients,
and be packed in a
practical and userfriendly manner. This
product will also be
expected to solve major
problem: the symptom

1. Synthetic
antipyretic drugs may
cause side effects
such as gastric ulcers,
duodenal ulcers,
impaired kidney, and
liver damage.
2. Synthetic
antipyretic drugs may
require larger doses to
achieve sustainable
fever reduction, such
that it is not effective.

Problem
Identification

1. Herbal antipyretics will be

used to treat fever caused by
fatigue and cold.
2. Herbal antipyretics will be
created using 100% herbal
ingredients that reduce the
negative impacts to the
consumers health condition.
3. The market target of this
product will be adults (> 15
years old).

4. The antipyretic created will

be a product made from new
ideas.

Concept Screening and Joining

Concept Screening and

Joining
After we generate the concepts, we will select the most
feasible object and eliminate the impossible.
This step is called a concept screening. This method
introduced by Stuart Pugh on 1980 and called
Decision Making Matrix
This phase main objective is to narrow down the
concepts that existed and reduce the many product
concept ideas generated to a relative few that will get
additional refinement and analysis

Concept Screening and Joining: Steps

Prepare the
selection/
screening
matrix.

Rate the
concepts.

Rank the
concepts

Selection criteria must relate to key customer

needs.
Selection criteria selection is done on the basis of
things that distinguish each concept ideas.
Idea concepts will be compared to benchmark
brand as reference concept.
+ is given for better than reference concept,
is given for concepts that are worse than reference
concept,
0 is given for concepts that are equal than reference
concept.
Ranking the concepts is needed to be done as
objectively as possible using the concept rating.
Concept rating of any ideas for each selection criteria
then is added to the total score.

Concept Screening and Joining: Steps (cont)

Combine &
improve the
concepts

It is needed to find if there are any generally good

concepts that are downgraded by one feature and to
find if it possible for 2 concepts to be combined to
preserve the better than features while
simultaneously removing any worse than features.

Select one or
Ideas with the total score is below than 1 are
more concepts for
decided not to be realized, while the concept with
further
value above than 1 are being continued by doing
refinement and
the merger of certain concepts to improve the rating
analysis
of that concept.
Reflect on the
results and
process

All team members need to reflect on current results

Perceptual Map
Practicality to Use: In liquid form, Tolak Angin and
Antangin will be packaged in sachet which is easy to
carry and can be consumed anytime, while paracetamol
and ibuprofen are usually packaged in bottle, therefore
less practical to consume.
Manufacturability: Synthetic drugs require a long
process of production, which means it requires more
advanced machinery for more complicated processes
and requires more cost. Meanwhile, herbal medicine will
not require too much advanced machinery.

Perceptual Map
Effectiveness: Synthetic drugs are already established as
effective antipyretics which are commonly consumed.
Tolak Angin and Antangin, however, do not focus in its
antipyretic properties to lower fever, but rather to prevent
or cure from catching cold. Therefore, their effectiveness
in lowering fever is still lower.
Side effect: Despite their effectiveness, synthetic drugs
are shown to have more dangerous possible side effects.
Meanwhile, herbal medicine are less likely to have such
dangerous side effects because of their natural properties.
