Energy Economics
Introduction| Rationale
Energy economics or more precisely the economics of
energy is a branch of applied economics where principles and
tools are applied. Like any branch of economic principles,
economics is concerned with the basic economic issue of
allocating scarce resources in the economy. Thus,
microeconomic concerns of energy supply and demand and the
macroeconomic concerns of investment, financing and
economic linkages with the rest of economy form an essential

and sustainable energy supply and to reduce greenhouse
gases and emissions. Energy Conservation is unquestionably
of great importance to all of us, since we rely on energy for
everything we do every single day. Energy supplies are
limited and, to maintain a good quality of life, we must find
ways to use energy wisely. Reducing the amount of energy
that we use is a good way to save money, and there are also
other benefits to decreasing energy consumption.
Introduction| Rationale
A carbon footprint is another measure of computing the
energy or the carbon savings of an activity. It is the total
amount of greenhouse gases produced to directly and
indirectly support human activities, usually expressed in
equivalent tons of carbon dioxide (CO2). Carbon Dioxide is
the by-product of emissions from our vehicles, heating our
homes, using electricity and from other activities in our daily
lives. Because of increasing concern about global climate
change and carbon emissions it is very important to know our
personal carbon footprint to be aware and help in reducing
the pollution in the changing world.
