Introduction:
In ancient and medieval times, there was
no system of morphological description of
plants as done now a days. This objective
was however fulfilled by coining names
and synonyms which indicated the salient
features of plants.
The main reason of not going into details
in this regard has been the close contact
with plants growing in the surroundings
thus not necessitating other means of
identification.
Cont
As ancients were keen observers of nature and coined
exact synonyms to designate specific characters of
plants which are still in use and are helpful for the
identification of the drugs.
This topic here illuminates the unknown parts of ancient
nomenclature devised by seers of our history, it is to
throw some light to the old nighantu and to travel
through the insights of nighantukaras about
nomenclatural methodology.
Shaastrama jyothi prakaashartham darshanam
buddhiratmanah. i.e.Science is light and it
illuminates, ones own intellect is the vision the only one
who applies both science and vision never fails in
identification/ nomenclature of the plants.
