EVALUTION QUESTION 3

What have you learnt form your audience feedback?

The Methods I used for feedback

Paper questionnaire distributed
around the school.
Focus group
Teachers commentary
Peer advice from Media class
Early draft screening
Final draft screening

Questionnaire feedback
I decided to create a questionnaire before I stared my
production to add to my existing research. Having primary
research is very beneficial to me as it means I can find specific
information related to my product that isn't to general and vague.
I distributed my questionnaire it to Sixth Form students as most of
them fit the demographic of my target audience. Before creating
the questionnaire I looked at the existing research and information
I had gathered and it felt like some information was missing in
order for me to create a successful music video that would attract
my target audience. Before deciding what questions would really
be useful for my research and planning, I thought about the
purpose of the questionnaire to shape the final production. I
wanted to find out what my audience expect to find within the
genre of my choice and the reasons to why they watch and are
attracted to music videos. As well as this, I wanted to create a star
persona based on what the audience wanted to see and what
kind of representation they expect to see.

From my questionnaire results, and I can incorporate

the Uses and Gratification theory as evidently, my
target audience for my music video is an active
audience and not passive. Young people tent to be
more engaged in media texted because of media
convergence. Music videos has now become more
accessible than ever . Every teen can access videos
on their phones, laptops, tablets, tv etc. From my
results I concluded that those questioned watched
music videos on their computers rather than on their
tvs. This is quite normal as in order to watch music
videos on TV you go through videos you may not likely
want to see. Online you can choose which one and
what time you watch it and perhaps watch it again.
With this information I can consider the audience in
question and perhaps have my music video accessible
on phones tablets and laptops as well as tv.

FOCUSE GROUPS AND

SCREENING
Before doing the screening I
carried out a focus group
presenting my pitch and had
the results presented on the
blog. I used this information inc
creating the music video as it
meant that what I was creating
was an informed decision by
the target audience.

Rebecca and I gave created screening

advertisements to post around the school to
invite students to come and offer use dome
feedback on out music video. Our leaflet
invited students between the ages of 15- 18
to attend the section. I wanted students other
than my media class to have an input into the
feedback as their responses will be a bit more
original and informed. From this session I
wanted to know what was good about the
music video, what didn'tt work and what I can
improve on. We gave out paper fore people to
jot down their opinions so that when it can to
discussing t they would have ideas they could
talk about or if we could not get round to
hearing everyone's feedback we would have
paper copies of their thoughts. The feedback
we received was very beneficial

The feedback I received form the first screening:

I received some positive verbal feedback from the
screening as people commented on the good
acting from the female artist made it believable
and emotionally engaging, good use of costumes,
locations and props and overall, an interesting
story line.
I also received some negatives criticism
concerning the unclear story line. To improve this,
we added more narrative clips into the music
video as there was a lot of performance. I also
made the flash back scenes much more clearer
through the filters we used which made the
narrative much clearer and showed the contrast
between the past and the present.

Evidently I changed the effect of

the flashback to a Sepia tone to
make the time frame of the
narrative more easy to follow.

I further highlighted the sections

that are in the present by the use
of full colour sections. It
separates it from the flashback
sections

My questionnaire and focus group gave me an insight on

what type of star persona I needed to create. I had
wanted a strong female protagonist that both males and
females can relate to. This is because I thought about the
lyrics and what massage it was trying to convey. It is
about heart break. However I wanted to empower the
artist instead of make her a victim of a male dominated
relationship. When looking at the persona I wanted to
create I looked back at my Laura Mulvey and the
conventional representation of woman and how I could
use that to my advantage and empower the protagonist.
the audience feedback from the first screening suggested
that this representation of empowerment I aimed for was
successful as the comments suggested that she seemed
strong anyway. I received loads of positive feedback on
the performance sections as it conveyed true emotion and
made the music video seems real according to the
students that viewed it.

The final screening

I used the same sample for the final screening. With
this I took the opportunity to also get feedback on my
ancillary task for people to look at. My final production
was viewed and included the changes I had made :
sepia effect for flashbacks scenes
improved lip syncing
Increase in flash backs and slightly less performance
sectionsThe feedback from the final screening was very
positive. The audience was overall pleased with the
changes and improvements they had contributed and
were glad we took on board their feedback. They
particularly loved the star persona created by the
protagonist in the video and felt it was consistent within

How the feedback benefited me:

for me the audience feedback had the most impact on my
production. A lot of constructive criticism caused for major
improvement to my work as I was able to gain an insight on my
audiences opinion first hand. It made me more aware of the
audiences wants and needs and how do cater to them in order to
create a successful media text. As well as this, I was able to
explore the representation of young women within my production
which was informed by my audience and the feedback allowed me
to do this successfully . We wanted to be original and stray away
from the stereotypical go against the narrative idea of binary
oppositions between the male and female character. We wanted
out media text to empower women and we made that clear
through the flash back scenes as our audience pointed out to use.
They said my ancillary task was consistent and made my final
products believable
