 The Ionosphere and Radio
Wave Propagation
 The ionosphere is important for
radio wave (AM only)
propagation....
 ionosphere is composed of the
D, E, and F layers
 the D layer is good at absorbing
AM radio waves
 D layer dissapears at night.... the
E and F layers bounce the
waves back to the earth
 this explains why radio stations
adjust their power output at
sunset and sunrise

BACKGROUND
Gelombang radio
gelombang yang memiliki frekuensi paling kecil atau
panjang gelombang paling panjang (1 cm sampai
ratusan m)
 Frekuensi radio (radio frequency : RF) adalah frekuensi
yang digunakan sebagai carrier / pembawa pada
komunikasi radio
Suatu sistem telekomunikasi yang menggunakan RF
sebagai pembawa sinyal informasinya terdiri dari antena
pemancar dan antena penerima.
BACKGROUND
 Gelombang radio berada dalam rentang
frekuensi meliputi beberapa Hz sampai
gigahertz (GHz atau orde pangkat 9).
 Gelombang ini dihasilkan oleh alat-alat
elektronik berupa rangkaian osilator
(variasi dan gabungan dari komponen
Resistor (R), induktor (L), dan kapasitor
(C)).
BACKGROUND
Frequency = Speed of Light /
Wavelength
ν=c/λ
(Hz or Cycles per Second are the basic
unit of Frequency)
Wavelength = Speed of Light /
Frequency
λ = c /ν
(Micron, 1/1,000,000 of 1 meter or 10-6m,
is the basic unit for measuring the
wavelength)

VISION

Company’s vision:
A nation wide WiMAX coverage and
commercial services to mitigate digital
divide within 5 years

The planning is designed to make that

vision feasible and to turn digital divide
into ICT digital bridge region

THE SCENARIOS
cenario 1 - Residential Hi Speed Internet Access

WiMAX be a competitor for areas that

currently used xDSL or Cable technology
in urban areas.
It will be deployed as a replacement for
wired connections.
Hopefully can provide a reasonable,
reliable and ascendible internet access
THE SCENARIOS
cenario 2 - Broadband Internet Access in Remote
Area using LOS connection
P2P for connecting BS
& feeding cellular towers

Internet

for hot spots

Telco central office or

DSL level service
for small business
THE SCENARIOS
Scenario 2 - Broadband Internet Access in
Remote Area using LOS connection

WiMAX deployment can easily reach

remote area but economically infeasible
to reach by xDSL or cable technologies.
The area consists of urban housing,
SME and small businesses such as
farming, home industries and mining
company
