Purpose of Study
Main purpose of power flow study is to
determine the steady state operation of electrical
power network.
This simulation gives us the complete
information of Real and Reactive power flows in
the network.
This information gives us the idea how to
schedule powers at different buses so that
system operates with minimum cost of energy.

FACTS
FACTS devices can be effectively used for
power control, load sharing among parallel
corridors, voltage regulation,
enhancement of transient stability and
mitigation of system oscillations.
Shunt Compensation
Using SVC
Shunt capacitors compensation is more or
like load compensation.
They raise the power factor which greatly
increases the active power transmitted
over the line and hence line will not have
to carry reactive power.
Series Compensation
Using TCSC
The purpose of Series compensation is to adjust
the power flow of the line by adjusting the
impedance of the line.
As Z=R + j( Xl Xc ) and R being negligible, by
changing Xl or Xc we can control the power flow
in the line.
Test System
A basic test system is used to show the
improvement in the power flow in network by the use
of the Compensating network.
This system results will be used as the base case
against which all other solutions will be compared.

Observation
Thus from the table we conclude that the SVC connected at
Bus of ELM gives the maximum active power flow and
minimum reactive power flow.
Compensation at bus ELM will be the most appropriate Bus
for optimal power flow.
Observations
From the observation table we conclude that
TCSC connected between Main and South gives
maximum active power flow and minimum
reactive power flow.
Series compensation between South bus and
Main bus will give most optimal power flow
solution.
