MASTER CONTROL SECTION - PLC
PLC has a high performance CPU at 300MHz with 10MB of user memory.
The controller can manage up to 32000 I/O in a number of standard
language. Ladder logic, Structured Text, C, Functional Block Diagram
The PLC has extensive diagnostics and hot swap capability.
Capable of supporting I/O and CPU fault diagnostics.
The CPU has an execution speed of 0,23 ms per 1000 words of ladder
logic programming.
Optionally PLC should offer
high availability redundancy
configured with the software
Second redundancy option is
Hot stand-by synchronized (*)
Slide 41

MASTER CONTROL SECTION - OPERATOR
Master control have a color touch screen operator interface which
allows the operator to view status and adjust the system variables.
Touch screen panel has integrated controller and combined with a touch
screen interface, networking and I/O into a single compact unit.
Panel is a true controller with its own operating system, and have the
reliability of an industrial Programmable Logic Controller.
The color touch screen display is at a minimum a resolution of
800 x 600 TFT.
The unit is powered with a 24VDC
control voltage using engine starting
batteries.

Slide 42

ASCO Power Control Systems

MASTER CONTROL SECTION DC POWER
Control power for the system is derived from the engine starting batteries.
The controls are powered from any battery or combination of batteries and
prevent feedback to a failing battery.
Assures control power continuity until the last battery is no longer available.
The transition of control logic power from any battery combination to any
other battery combination is accomplished without disruption in the power
flow.
DC-to-DC converter provides a constant 24VDC to critical controllers during
starting and cranking of all engine generator sets.
Additionally, the best battery system provides power to each generator
paralleling circuit breaker trip coil if the generator battery power is lost to its
cubicle.

Slide 43

ASCO Power Control Systems

Priority Load Control
Discrete output modules are provided to control the necessary priority
load blocks.
The number of load blocks are equal to the number of engine generator
sets and are sized such that the connectable load of each block is not
greater than the kilowatt rating of the generator set connected.
As the generators are randomly connected to the bus, the PLC based
controls signal for the connection of the load blocks in an ascending
sequential priority.
Load shedding is done on a last-on, first-off basis.
A load shed bypass/reset push-button for manual supervised operation
over the load-shed, load-add control logic is provided.

Slide 44

ASCO Power Control Systems

Load Demand
Controls Number of Generator to keep available on Emergency Bus
Calculates the actual Current consumption on Emergency Bus
Stops unneccessary Generators and shut them off with cool down period
Related parameters are user adjustable over the Touch Screen, located
on Master Section

Slide 45

ASCO Power Control Systems

Bus Optimisation
Controls Number of Load Blocks to be connected to Emergency Bus
Maximize the Load Blocks on Emergency Bus
Calculates if next Load Block can be transferred to Emergency Bus if
all Load Blocks (ATS) were not transferred to Emergency
User can bypass the automatic operation and add next Load Block
manually
Related Parameters are user adjustable over the Touch Screen, located
on Master Section

Manual Paralleling Controls (*)
Hard-wired manual paralleling control, outside of Touch Screen Panel
All manual paralleling interface controls and metering are grouped in a
central location on the front of the master control section.
A Synchroscope selector switch is provided to select any generator for
manual paralleling operation.
The positioning of the selector switch simultaneously connects the
synch-check relay, Synchroscope, and manual paralleling pushbutton to the selected generator.
The solid-state sync check relay is furnished for manual paralleling; to
sense and compare the phase angle difference between the oncoming
generator and the bus.
