A Year in the Life of the


Campus Internship Coordinator

2014/15- A SMART Year


Goal #1: Actively support and contribute to Career
Services, Student Affairs, and the Universitys
strategic plans and related goals, especially as they
pertain to internships.
Increase internship opportunities available to students in Aztec
Career Connection by 10% to an overall posting total of 2,116
Total Postings- 2,069 as of May 12, 2015
Pilot an ongoing Internship Placement survey of employers
posting on Aztec Career Connection to determine how many
students are placed into internships outside of academic
courses / department programs
Increase verified SDSU student internship placements by 15% (397) to an
overall placement rate of 2,745 for 2014 2015

Total Placements- 2,810

2014/15- A SMART Year


Goal #1: Actively support and contribute to Career
Services, Student Affairs, and the Universitys
strategic plans and related goals, especially as they
pertain to internships.
Revise the College-based, for-credit internship site approval
process (including Service Learning Agreements (SLAs) and
Internship Site Questionnaires (ISQs)) to address three key areas
that deter campus partner involvement:
Approval processing time / requirements
Document storage / shared access
Options for ongoing internship site reviews

2014/15- A SMART Year


Goal #2: In support of Career Services goals, achieve
the following during the 2014/15 year:
Train 900 students in internship-focused workshops
Trained- 1,028
Train 90 faculty on topics such as student learning outcomes,
internship site development and accountability, and best
practices regarding internships across a series of iExchanges,
summits, and institutes
Trained- 99
75 students from programs such as Compact Scholars, EOP
Transfer Bridge, the Honors Program and Residential Education
Aztec Journey completing the SDSU Summer Internship Program
Enrolled via LinkedIn- 139
Completed the Program- 61
Placed in Summer Internship- 42

2014/15- A SMART Year


Goal #3: Work with the Executive Director to
establish benchmarks and related metrics in the
following areas to allow for a full accounting of
internships at San Diego State University:

For-credit courses
Departmental-based programs
International internships
Campus-based internships
Internships offered via Career Services Aztec Career
Connection

Goal #4: Align internship-focused programs (such
as the Summer Internship Institute) and workshop
series with planning and reporting for Career
Services, Student Affairs, and campus strategic
planning

2015/16- Building on Excellence


Internship and Mentor SMART Goal
Engage 20 unmatched AMP mentors and 40 student
attendees in ACE (Aztec Career Experience) a new
speeding informational interview program

Department Internship Contact SMART Goals


Train 20 Department Internship Contacts on how to use
Adobe Document Cloud powered by EchoSign in order to
use the online SLA process
Work with 5 Department Internship Contacts to complete
the annual review
Host 8 Department Internship Contact events (Summer
Internship Program, Internship Summit, and 6 iExchange
Events) and engage 90 attendees

Engage 20 students throughout the 2015/16 year and help
them prepare and find placement in a summer internship
Organize and facilitate 6 Campus Conversations and Behind
the Scenes Tours and engage 180 students total in both
programs
Engage 30 employers in Summer Internship Program events

Only the Employer needs to complete
and sign the ISQ
