Nanoparticles
Nanoparticles are particles between 1 and 100
nanometers in size.
Nanoparticle research is currently an area of
intense scientific research, due to a wide variety of
potential applications in biomedical, optical, and
electronic fields.
A particle is defined as a small object that behaves
as a whole unit with respect to its transport and
properties.

Nanoparticles
Aluminum, Gold, Zinc, Carbon, Titanium,
Palladium, Iron and Copper have been routinely
used for the synthesis of NPs.
Nanoparticles are of great scientific interest as they
are effectively a bridge between bulk materials and
atomic or molecular structures.

Categories of nanomaterials
A wide range of nanomaterials with different physical and chemical
behaviors has been developed.
Nanomaterials can be divided into a number of
various groups
Nanoclusters
Nanopowders
Nanocrystals
Nanoparticles
nanorods
Nanospheres
Nanodiamonds
quantum dots

Nanotechnology
Nanotechnology is science, engineering, and
technologyconductedat the nanoscale, which is
about 1 to 100 nanometers.
Environmental issues of nanotechnology are
becoming increasingly prominent area of
research
Therefore there is a need to synthesize
nanoparticles that are safe and environmental
friendly

Green method
Different physical and chemical processes are currently
widely used to synthesize metal nanoparticles
These production methods are usually expensive, laborintensive, and are potentially hazardous to the
environment and living organisms.
The nanoparticle production using plants displays
important advantages over other biological systems.
Nanoparticlesproduced by plants are more stable and
the rate of synthesis is faster than in the case of
microorganisms.

Methods of synthesis

Importance of green
method

Commonly Used Plant

Species
The most commonly used plant resource for iron
nanoparticle synthesis is tea extract.
Camellia sinensis(green tea) extract to react with
0.1M FeCl3solution.
synthesis is carried out at room temperature using
different volumes of tea.
These nanoparticles served as Fenton-like catalyst
for the degradation of cationic dyes such as
methylene blue (MB) and anionic dyes like methyl
orange (MO)

Almost complete removal of both dyes was

achieved in 200 and 350 minutes for MB and
MO, respectively.
In the case of GT-Fe NPs, almost 100%
removal of MB and MO was observed at an
initial dye concentration of 10mg/L and 100
mg/L.
Kuang et al. used three different tea
extracts, namely, green tea (GT), oolong tea
(OT), and black tea (BT) to synthesize iron
nanoparticles.
