MITOSIS
What is interphase?
A phase during which cells grow, develop
and perform their functions.
At the end of interphase, a cell will have
duplicated its DNA and grown much larger,
this will allow it to perform mitosis.
Cells grow

Then, cells
grow even
more!
What is mitosis?
A process in which a Eukaryotic cell divides
to produce two identical daughter cells.
Uses of Mitosis
Repair and Heal: Multicellular
organisms use mitosis to heal
wounds and repair damaged
tissue.
Asexual reproduction.
Unicellular Eukaryotes (Fungi
and Protists) use it to
reproduce.
Growth and development.
Multicellular organisms grow
by making more body cells.
Asexual Reproduction
Yeast is a type of
unicellular Fungi
used to make bread.
Here we see yeast
using mitosis to
reproduce.
Video time!
We will now watch a video on the cell cycle and mitosis.
There is A LOT of information on this video, so pay close
attention.
As you watch, fill in the blanks in the paragraph in your
graphic organizer.
IDENTI
When a cell undergoes mitosis it creates

daughter cells.

Cancer cells
When mitosis
malfunctions and cells
reproduce unchecked,
they begin to form a
tumor.
A malignant tumor can
spread to other parts of
the body.
