What is Global Warming?

also known as climate change; a
gradual increase in the overall
temperature of the earth's atmosphere. It
is generally attributed to the greenhouse
effect caused by increased levels of
carbon dioxide, chlorofluorocarbons, and
other pollutants.

What Causes Global Warming?

1. Increase of carbon
dioxide in the
atmosphere
2. Combustion of fossil
fuels (in cars,
factories and
electricity
production)
3. Methane released
from landfills and
agriculture
(especially from the
digestive systems of

4. Nitrous oxide from

fertilizers
5. Gases used for
refrigeration and
industrial processes
6. Loss of forests

What are the Effects of Global

Warming?

A set of changes to the earth's climate,

or long-term weather patterns, that
varies from place to place
Glaciers are melting, sea levels are
rising, cloud forests are drying, and
wildlife is scrambling to keep pace.

What are the Effects of Global

Warming?
Weather can become more extreme. This
means more intense major storms, more
rain followed by longer and drier droughts
and more massive fires
Extinction of animals and other creatures

What are the Effects of Global

Warming?

Species that depend on one another

may become out of sync
Less fresh water will be available
Some diseases will spread such as
malaria carried by mosquitoes and
heat-related illnesses

What Can We Do?

PLANT, PLANT, AND PLANT. Plants and trees
absorb CO2 as they grow, "sequestering"
carbon naturally. Increasing forestlands
and making changes to the way we farm
could increase the amount of carbon we're
storing
Reduce, Reuse, Recycle

What Can We Do?

Conserve energy
Stop smoking!
By driving a smarter car
Let policy makersknow you are
concerned about global warming
Spread the word

O Take

time
and
appreciate
what
nature can offer us.

O And as a response,

we must take care

of nature as our
gratitude to it.

TRIVIA!
O Even

if
we
stopped
emitting
greenhouse gases (GHGs) today, the
earth would still warm by another
degree Fahrenheit or so. Depending on
our choices, scientists predict that the
Earth could eventually warm by as
little as 2.5 degrees or as much as 10
degrees Fahrenheit.
But what we do from today
forward makes a big difference!
