(b)
(i) Heat is produced by an electrical arc formed between the welding
electrode and the metal being welded.
(ii) Flux is required at the joint to remove oxides, keep the weld pool clean
from impurities and allow the weld to cool slowly by producing a slag
covering.
(iii) The earth clamp is required to complete the circuit for current flow
through
the metal being welded and back to the welding unit.
(iv) Leather gloves must be worn to protect the user from hot metal
particles, UV
light and or high temperatures.
