- BS5839-1 : 10.6m (~ 100m2)

23

Basic Fire All 2004-v2.ppt

Detectors not to exceed listed spacing and will be

installed within 1/2 listed spacing from all walls
In irregular shaped rooms, detectors shall be
installed so all areas of the ceiling are within the
radius of protection (0.7 x S):
- NFPA72 : 6.4m
- BS5839-1 : 7.5m

EN 54 & NFPA 72 Compatibility

Generally NFPA 72 and BS 5839-1 strive to achieve a common
objective: A system providing safe evacuation and sufficient protection
for life and property.
The NFPA 72 Code does not restrict the designer to the exclusive use of
products that are tested to US standards. As per

- 1.5.1 Nothing in this Code shall prevent the use of systems,

methods, devices or appliances of equivalent or superior quality,

strength, fire resistance, effectiveness, durability and safety over
those prescribed by this code

47

Basic Fire All 2004-v2.ppt

- Clause F.2 states Standards and Codes. The following standards

and codes are referenced explicitly or implicitly regarding the design,

installation, testing, maintenance and use of these systems and their
components. These were used when developing this standard, but
are not necessarily required practice for manufacturers
