Concepts
BTS3012AE: an outdoor macro cell BTS of the dual-density series
Dual density: the mode in which a module bears two carriers
PBT: power burst technology
Transmit diversity: a technology that an MS receives signals

transmitted in two channels to achieve enhancement of signals

4-channel receive diversity: a technology that an MS receives signals

in four channels and gets more uplink diversity gain than the main
diversity
DAFU: a generic term for combiner and divider units DDPU and

DCOM as well as duplex units.

Fan Unit
The fan box provides forced ventilation and heat dissipation for the

common subrack, DTRU subrack, and the DAFU subrack. The fan box and
the air intake box of the cabinet form a ventilation circuit.
The fan box is required. The four independent axial-flow fans that are

embedded in the fan box work in intelligent speed-regulation mode. The

rotational speed and status of the fans are controlled by the NodeB fan
controlling and monitoring board (NFCB).

Fan Unit
The fan tray assembly is configured with one fan box, which has four fans and one

NFCB board inside.

The NFCB board collects the temperature of the air inlet at the bottom of the cabinet

and reports the temperature to the DTMU. The NFCB board can also automatically
adjust the rotational speed of the fans according to the collected temperature.
The fans exhaust air from both the top and the bottom. The air inlet at the bottom of

the cabinet and the rear section of the cabinet top form a ventilation circuit. In this
manner, forced heat dissipation is provided to the cabinet.

Service Signal Flow
The BTS3012AE downlink service signal flow is described as follows:

The DTMU receives service data from the BSC, completes data
switching and processing, and then sends service data to the related
DTRU through DCSU.
The DTRU completes digital filter, performs further upconversion
and filter amplification through RF, and transmits signals to DAFU.
The duplexer in the DAFU performs duplex filter for output signals of
the DTRU and transmits the signals through feeders and tower
mounted antennas.

Service Signal Flow
The BTS3012AE uplink service signal flow is described as follows:

The antennas of the antenna subsystem receives signals transmitted

by an MS and amplifies the received signals through TMA. The signals
are then transmitted to the DAFU through feeders.
The DAFU receives uplink signals, completes duplexer filter and low
noise amplification, and then transmits the uplink signals to the DTRU.
The DTRU receives the uplink signals from the DAFU, performs
amplification and underconversion for the signals, and outputs the
signals to the DTMU through the DCSU. The DTMU then transmits the
signals to the BSC through the Abis interface.

Processing Signal Flow
The BTS3012AE signaling processing signal flow is described as follows:

The Abis interface receives signaling data from the BSC and forwards
the signaling data to the DTMU.
The DTMU processes the signaling data and transmits the signaling
to the DTRU and DAFU through the DCCU.
The DTRU and DAFU report board status to the DTMU through the
DCSU.
After obtaining all the board status, the DTMU obtains the BTS status
through analysis. The DTMU then transmits the BTS status to the
BSC through the Abis interface.

Description of BTS3012AE Clock Signal Flow

The BTS3012AE clock signal flow is described as follows:

The external reference clock signals are transmitted to the clock

module in the DTMU through the Abis interface.
The clock module performs phase lock and frequency division for the
clock signals to generate all kinds of clock signals required by the
BTS.
After receiving the signal clocks from the DTMU, the DCCU forwards
them to the DTRU and DAFU in the main cabinet.
The DCSU also transmits the clock signals to boards in the extension
cabinet.

Configuration Principle
If the number of carriers of a synchronous cell is not less than 12, the

configuration is fulfilled through single cabinets. If the number of carriers

of a synchronous cell is more than 12 and less than 14, the configuration
is fulfilled through combined cabinets. If the number of carriers of a
synchronous cell is more than 24, the configuration is fulfilled through
cabinet group. The configuration must be in accordance with the
following principles:
Use the fewest cabinets.
Use the fewest antennas.
All carriers of a synchronous directional cell must be configured in the
same cabinet.
Take the main cabinet as the first choice for housing carriers. The
carriers in the main cabinet must not be fewer than carriers in a
extension cabinet.
HUAWEI TECHNOLOGIES CO., LTD.

All rights reserved

page80

Configuration Principle
Omnidirectional cells and sector cells are supported. The biggest synchronous cell

S12/12/12 is supported.
Multiple cells are supported. A single cabinet supports a maximum of six cells.
The BTS3012AE supports that two cabinets are combined and that three combined

cabinets are grouped.

Each site supports 172 carriers.
The BTS3012AE supports Transmit Diversity and 4-Channel Receive Diversity.
General 3-sector configuration requires only three DDPU modules. The three

DCOM modules fulfills Transmit Diversity and 4-Channel Receive Diversity.

While configuring a DCOM module, use the 2-in-1 functions inside carriers with the

highest priority. Do not configure the DCOM module until combination output is
required.
