S : face the clients squarely (literally &
metaphorically understanding)
O : to adopt with open posture
(nondefensiveness)
L : lean toward the clients (showing interest)
E : eye contact of the counsellor
R : relax + feel comfortable for the counsellor

Example:
Client: actually Im not facing any problem
is my mom who wants me to be here
(starting grapping his hand while
talking) well, as I told you Im really
ok(avoiding the eye contact with
the counsellor)
Exercise 5.3
Base on the dialog , how does you (as if)
as a counsellor to read your client through
the verbal and nonverbal behavior.
To show your attentiveness in this
communication, what kinds of nonverbal

Listen with your 3rd ear
= Active Listening Skill
not a passive listener, but listen to the
feeling
showing the interest of listening with
appropriate gesture and posture
embedded the empathy during the session
LISTENING SKILL
The important of listening skill in counselling:
(a) To ensure the process of problems
exploration achieving the goal of session
(b) Present a therapeutic condition where
the client feel safe to share their problem
TUTORIAL 6
( 1 HOUR )
TUTORIAL (6):
Select a person who is willing to be a client
and you be the counseling teacher. The
interaction should be about 5 minutes. While
your client is talking, you indicate boredom
by looking away, doodling and so on. After
the interaction, ask you clients reaction to
the session. Did he/she feel uncomfortable?
