Military
The military can tell us so much about a particular culture. By looking at
the weapons and seeing what they are using can tell us if they are
advanced or not. For example, if a civilization is using a stick with an
arrowhead we can determine they are less advanced in technology rather
than a civilization that uses axe heads or mace heads. The military can also
show us how populated a civilization usually is. Most of the warriors were
younger or middle aged men and if we could get an estimate of the total
warriors than we can estimate the size of the civilization. For example, if an
army has 150,000 soldiers we can hypothesize that they are apart of a
bigger civilization than an army of 50,000 soldiers. Another thing we can
determine from the military is if the civilization is a conquering civilization
or not. There are many factors to this. If an army has mass numbers and
are technologically advanced we can somewhat hypothesize they
conquered land or other civilizations. For example, look at the Persian
Army, they were advanced in technology so they had advanced weaponry
and they had a mass amount of soldiers. The Persian Army conquered lands
throughout the Middle East, Europe, parts of Asia, and even into some
parts of Africa. The military is an effective way for civilizations to spread
their culture and beliefs.
