On Original
thought

There is nothing like original thought in Indian scriptures, its Sanatan (something
that is anadi - no beginning and Ananta - no end). So finding where did an idea,
story etc come from first is like finding a corner in the circle.
Did Valmiki write the Ramayan? But it narrated by Narad to him; But a crow called
Kakabhusandi narrate the story to Narad, who had in turn heard this story from
Shiva and it goes on

On Valmiki

Valmiki was forced to steal because of his poverty and once he steals Narad who
questions him wheather he wants his family (for whom he was stealing) to suffer
the consequences of his misdoings. Valmiki realises this and comes back to Narad
to listen to the story of Ram.
Later, the learned Valmiki curses a hunter who kills a bird and realises the cruse
was in a form of a poem, so from Shok is born Shlok and he goes on to write the

Veda Vyasa was a brilliant organizer, the word Vyas means organizer. There was a
12-14 year famine in which all the scriptures were lost. Veda Vyasa a
fisherwomans son collated them into a structure of Mandals, Samhitas and Rik
