In contrary, Paciano and Don Francisco wanted Rizal to pursue


College Education.

Take note: The Bachelor of Arts degree during Spanish times was
equivalent to a high school diploma today.

1.) His Father Don Francisco liked it.

2.) Uncertainty on what course to take up.


3.) Failure to solicit the advice of Father Ramon Pablo,
who was then at Mindanao.

Spanish Brutality

Happened during his 1st summer vacation at Calamba after his


freshman year.

-one dark night in calamba, he was walking in the street. He dimly


perceived the figure of a man while passing him. Not knowing the person
due to darkness, he did not salute or say a courteous good evening.
The vague figure was lieutenant of the guardia civil. With snarl he turned
upon rizal, whipped out a sword and brutallyslashed the later on the
back.
He related I went to the captain-general but I could not obtain any
justice; my wound lasted for two weeks.

Failure to perceive a lieutenant during that night.
