INTRODUCTION
Western sculpture can be divided into prehistoric sculpture, classical sculpture and
modern sculpture. For this presentation, I want to show something more about
classical sculpture and modern sculpture.
The tradition of classical sculpture comes from ancient Greek and ancient Rome. And
many elements and concepts of Greek and Rome come from ancient Egyptian
sculpture.

ANCIENT EGYPTIAN SCULPTURE

Egyptian art is famous for its distinctive figure convention,
with parted legs (where not seated) and head shown as
seen from the side, but the torso and eyes seen as from the
front. The characters appearances are very realistic. The
characters are arranged in order , even animals appear in
row.
This realistic model derives from the Egyptians' belief that
features are important parts of a person 's life, and also for the
soul can easily find his or her place to live.

ANCIENT EGYPTIAN SCULPTURE

However, this kind of convention is not a vivid expression of
emotion, people in those paintings or sculptures will never
change the stable expression, so the image gives a sense of
indifference.
Besides, The Egyptian sculpture has the function of offering
sacrifices and religion

simple, but it gives us a original feeling of beauty.
Ancient Greek myths and legends are the sources
of ancient Greek art, and also the theme of ancient
Greek sculpture.
People from ancient Greek believed that gods had
the similar form of human. Therefore, they referred
to the image of people to shape the gods.

The body focus falls on the right foot, the left foot
against the ground, knees bent into an obtuse
angle, the whole body has produced an intense
explosive force and elastic feeling.
The shape of the body is tense, and the expression
of the head gives a calm and smooth impression,
which is the pursuit of the classical style.
It has become a symbol of praise for the beauty of
the female body. The proportion of each part of the
sculpture almost contains the golden section of
the aesthetic secret

ANCIENT GREEK SCULPTURE

Why people always make sculpture naked?
There is a perspective, that the ancient Greeks
love to make naked sculpture, is because at that
moment, there are many wars people have to
fight, and sports are very popular in Greece. For
example, early Olympic athletes are naked while
playing sports, matches. So people considered
naked as to show the beauty of the human body.
At that time, people thought the ideal person
should be well developed, well proportioned,
vigorous, and good at sports

ANCIENT ROME SCULPTURE

It is more secular than the ancient Greek sculpture style. Many military
strategists and politicians in Rome asked the sculptor to create a sculpture
for them.
In this period, sculpture in a realistic way to express the character's
character, and make this technology improved by making leaders sculpture.
But in the form of art, it is similar to that of ancient Greece. Rome sculpture
follows the tradition of the "true beauty" of the Greek sculpture.

MEDIEVAL CHRISTIAN ERA

With the death of the West Rome empire in the fifth Century, it began to be called
the dark middle era, and it was ended in the Italy Renaissance in fifteenth Century.
The coming of the Middle era indicated the arrival of the Western country walked into
the Christian era.

In this period of time, religion made a deep influence on sculpture. The sculpture works
mostly with a strong color of asceticism. Appreciating the beauty of body, sex, or
naked was forbidden.

MEDIEVAL CHRISTIAN ERA

Under the teaching spirit of the Christian,
the Gothic art has made brilliant
achievements.
It Fully used in praise of God and the Christian
spirit. Its style was one hundred percent match
the historical and cultural background, so gothic
art became the most popular sculpture form.

produced the extraordinary power in fifteenth Century, Renaissance.
Because of the reaffirmation of the value of our own self, The artist
