THE AIM

To teach the students how to

prove a fundamental theorem of

geometry related to triangle.

INTRODUCTION
Some questions will be asked
from the students
Q1. What are the elements of a
triangle?
Ans. There are six elements, three
angles and three sides.

Now the students will be invited to

construct ABC in which
AB=8
cm
BC=7 cm
CA=6 cm
Student
will
make
it easily
Draw a
PQR
in Which
PQ=10 cm
PR=3 cm
QR=6 cm
Students will be unable to draw
the triangle

Now the students will be asked why

not we construct the triangle
The students will think over for some
time
For this let us come to the first case
when we add the two sides results the
greater measurement as compare to
the measurement of third side i-e
8cm + 7cm = 15 cm 6 cm
7cm + 6cm = 13 cm 8 cm

For the second case the above

condition is not satisfied i-e
3cm+6cm=9cm>10 cm
Thus from the above two examples we
conclude that A triangle can be
made if the sum of measure of any
two sides of a triangle is greater than
the measure of the third side.

The class will now be told that :

We will prove it logically that the sum
of measure of any two sides of a

(In this way we have developed a

general result from particular
examples i-e
Inductive Reasoning)

DEVELOPMENT

Theorem On Geometery.

The students will be able to prove
the theorem by using the logical
reasons

TREATMENT AND
One of the PROCEDURE
student will be asked to
read the statement of the theorem
B

Q. In the statement what is its given

part?

What did you ask to prove in this theorem?

A: The sum of measure of any two sides is greater than
the measure of third side. i - e

m AB + m AC > m BC
m AB + m BC > m AC
m BC + m AC > m AB

Q. What do you mean by bisector of an angle?

A: A line which divide the angle in two equal parts.

Q. Can we draw the bisector of A and what will

happen?
A.Yes, The B will divide into two equal parts i-e
m1= m 2

Which one is the exterior angle of triangle BCD?

A.3

B
1

3
D

Q. In fig what is a relation between 3 and 2 ?

Ans. m3 > m2
Q. Can we say m 3 > m 1 ?
Ans. Yes because m 1 = m2

B
2
1

C
D

Q. In triangle ADB, if m 3>m 1 , then what

condition will be applied on the opposite sides of the
triangle
Ans. The side opposite to the larger angle is greater
than the side opposite to the smaller angle.
Q. Can we apply the same condition on triangle BCD
Ans. Yes

Q. What result will you get from the above

statements
A:

m AB + m BC > m AC

Q. Can we draw the angle bisectors of remaining

two angles?
Ans. Yes
Q. What type of results will you get after drawing
the bisectors of remaining two angles?
Ans. m AC + m AB > m BC
m AC + m BC > m AB
