The story takes place in Syracuse, New York at Merryweather

High School, during Melinda's freshman year.

PLOT

EXPOSITION
Imagine something terrible happened to you.
No one knew the truth. Not even your best friend.
The entire school hated you.
For something they dont even understand.
No one took the time to ask you what happened.
Freshman year, and you had no friends.
People called you a squealer.

CONFLICT
Melinda Sordino went to a party with her friends in August

before freshman year.

Everyone was drinking
A senior approached her, and they began dancing. Then they
got sensual.
But then, Andy went too far. Melinda said no and tried to
scream, but Andy covered her mouth and raped Melinda.

 She called the police.

But while on the phone, she was unable to talk to the police

about what happened.

And when the police arrived, she did not report the rape and
went home instead.

 Art became her only salvation.

Mr. Freeman, Merryweather Highs Art teacher assigned each

student an object to draw through the entire year.

Her object was a tree.
She immerses herself into art, turning an abandoned closet
into her studio and escape room.

 Melindas parents never cared about her, and only to notice

her changes in her grades.

Mr Neck, her History teacher, always bullied her and even
sent her to the schools principal for not reading her paper
aloud in class.
Her English teacher, who she referred as Hair Woman, never
made eye contact with the students.
No adults ever cared about her, and her problems.

RISING ACTION
Melinda is nice to a new student named Heather Billings, who

then claimed to be Melindas friend.

But she instantly abandoned Melinda as soon as the chance
for social advancement arises.
The only other student she has a positive engagement is her
lab partner, Dave Petrakis, who avoided affiliating with a
clique.

CLIMAX

Her former best friend, Rachel Bruin started dating Andy.

Melinda dears that Rachel might suffer the same fate.
She finds Rachel at the library and told the truth about the
incident during the party by writing it on a paper.

 At first, Rachel believes Melindas story.

But when she reveals that it was Andy who raped her, Rachel

accuses her of making up lies out of jealousy of her

popularity.
But she then realized the truth by confronting Andy.

FALLING ACTION
After Rachel told everyone what happened, Andy threatened

and began to attack Melinda.

He corner her in the art room and tried to force her to tell
everybody that she made up the story.
She struggled to get free, eventually overpowered him.
They were found by one of her old friends.
A group of girls helped Melinda and trapped Andy.

CONCLUSION
Mr Neck saw Melinda walking away from the scene and

inquired what was going on, but she stayed mute.

On the way back from the hospital for treatment, she rolled
down the window of the car.
She found strength to confessed to her mother about the
incident at the party.

 It is clear that she still needs time to fully recover from the

trauma, but this is a significant and empowering event in her

life, as she finally finds the courage to SPEAK.

PROBLEMS/ISSUES
Lack of self control.
Low self esteem
Pushing other people down.
Stereotyping people.
Lack of affection.
Acceptance.
Not speaking up.

LESSONS
Life goes on. (At the end of the story)
Life is never perfect, but it can still be good.
What doesnt kill you will make you stronger.
People are stronger than they themselves think.
Hear people out.
We may know someones name, but not his/her story. Dont

ever jump into conclusion.
